“Four hours. 30,000 units of clothing sorted, contributing to 9 tonnes diverted from landfill. 968 people clothed. I’m incredibly proud of my fellow CommBank employees, their children, family members and friends who participated in the recent Family Volunteering Day with our wonderful partner Thread Together. Thread Together take excess new clothing, shoes and accessories from brands and retailers (which would have been destined for landfill), and passes it on – at no cost – to support survivors of natural disasters, First Nations communities, people experiencing homelessness, long-term unemployed, youth at risk, refugees, and other vulnerable members of the community. Giving up their school holiday time, 31 staff and 47 kids and families connected away from home (and their devices!) and participated in a fun and rewarding family activity. ‘Packing with Purpose’, our people sorted and packed clothing and apparel for people in need across Australia. This work will make a real difference and help to create brighter futures for the communities in which we live and work. A sincere thanks to all who participated!” Jacqui Rodgers – Manager, Community Investment – Social Impact & Community. #CommbankLife #ThreadTogether #FamilyVolunteeringDay

This is corporate responsibility at its most powerful and human. ❤️ Transforming 30,000 units of excess clothing into dignity and hope for 968 people is a staggering impact. 👏 Even more inspiring is seeing families and kids giving up their holiday time to connect IRL, packing with purpose. This is how you build a culture of compassion, not just a company.

How does 30,000 units of clothing equate to 9 million tonnes? Seems a little far fetched. But the enterprise was worthwhile without all the exaggeration.

This is incredible work. It’s one thing to talk about community impact, and another to operationalize it at this scale — 30,000 units sorted in four hours is the kind of efficiency most businesses dream of. But what really stands out is the model behind it. Partnerships like this show what’s possible when corporate teams, families, and mission-driven organisations align around a shared purpose. Thread Together brings the infrastructure and expertise, CommBank brings the people and coordination — and together you create outcomes no single group could achieve alone. It’s also powerful to see the next generation involved. When kids see firsthand how logistics, collaboration, and community service come together, you’re building future leaders who understand both impact and responsibility. Curious — as this partnership continues to grow, are there plans to bring even more external partners or local organisations into the model to amplify the reach even further?
