Auto-Targeting for Classic ad sets combines LinkedIn’s professional audience, platform signals, and your inputs to automatically build an audience for your ad set. Use Auto-Targeting to help reduce the time you spend on audience creation, while keeping the flexibility and control to add in additional signals to adjust your target audience.
Prerequisites
Your Auto-Targeting audience is a part of the Classic ad set creation. Learn more about Auto-Targeting audiences and compare the differences between Classic and Accelerate ad sets.
If you’d like to add data sources to your Auto-Targeting audience, we recommend that you confirm they’re ready to use before you build your ad set.
Create an Auto-Targeting audience
To create an Auto-Targeting audience:

Follow the instructions to set up your Classic ad set in Campaign Manager. Select your objective, ad set type (Classic), campaign, and review your group budget and schedule. Then click Next.

In the What You’re Marketing section, add or select your company’s URL.
- New URLs - Click Add new in the upper-right corner and enter the name and URL.
- Existing URLs - Click the dropdown menu and select the URL you’d like to use.

In the Audience section, click Use Auto-Targeting in the upper-right corner.

Review the generated Targeting Settings.

Optional: Click Edit next to Targeting Settings to update. From here, you can take the following actions.
Action Steps Update profile language Click the Profile language dropdown menu and select a new language. Remove a location Below Locations, click the X icon next to the location. Add a location Below Locations, click the + icon and enter your locaiton in the search bar. Select the checkbox next ot the location you's like to add. Add exclusions Below Exclusions, click the exclusion type you’d like to add.
Locations - Enter the location in the search bar and select the checkbox next to the locations you’d like to exclude.
Contact lists or company lists - Select the checkbox next to the contact or company lists you'd like to exclude. Please note, you must upload the list before you can exclude it. Learn how to upload company and contact lists.
Company industries, job seniorities, and job functions - Click the attribute you’d like to add, then select the checkbox next to the specific categories from the dropdown menu.
Employees of your company - Select or clear the checkbox to exclude or include your company employees.

Optional: Click the Add signals button to add additional audience signals.
Action Steps Add a data source Click the Select a data source dropdown menu and select your data source. After you select the source, click +Add and select your data source. Add signals Click the signal you’d like to add, then select the checkbox next to the specific categories from the dropdown menu. -
Click Done.
Results
Once you complete your review of your audience, finish creating your ad set and launch.
