This week in the Department of Information Systems Research Spotlights, we’re excited to share four stories that showcase the breadth, impact, and real-world relevance of our faculty and student scholarship. Edward C. Dillon, Jr., Ph.D. and his collaborators have had five new articles accepted across leading computing and higher education venues. Many of these projects are supported by the National Science Foundation. Dr. Dillon and his graduate research assistants will present several of these works this fall at the 2025 IEEE Frontiers in Education conference in Nashville. HCC PhD student Krystal Zhang, advised by Dr. Foad Hamidi, published a full paper at the ACM ASSETS Conference. Her research examines the long-term impact of a Maryland partnership that distributes free 3D-printed assistive devices to residents with disabilities. The findings highlight how accessible and low-cost technology can strengthen independence, community engagement, and trust in public services. PhD student Nadeem Ahmed, working with Dr. Aryya Gangopadhyay, published a study that evaluates how widely used cryptographic libraries are supporting post-quantum algorithms. This work provides an important look at the future of digital security and what it will take for organizations to prepare. PhD student Neil Kpamegan, also collaborating with Dr. Gangopadhyay, introduced a new cyberdefense framework called CyQuaPro that uses Stackelberg game theory to help organizations allocate defensive resources in distributed systems. This research has both civilian and defense applications. Explore this week’s features and see how the Department of Information Systems at UMBC continues to drive innovation, accessibility, cybersecurity, and community impact across Maryland and beyond. https://lnkd.in/ez99TNyk
