To ensure all Americans have access to healthcare, we must eliminate the barriers that hinder the filling of critical roles when the healthcare shortage is evident across the provider spectrum. read my guest blog post @aptqi below:

"For years, some physical therapy practices have relied on the H-1B visa program to help fill critical staffing gaps," said Dan Rootenberg, CEO of #APTQI member Spear Physical Therapy in a recent guest blog. Foreign-trained clinicians play a vital role in maintaining access to care, but given new federal H-1B fees, many practices may not be able to afford to sponsor these essential providers — putting patients and practices at risk. By targeting exemptions for healthcare workers and exploring streamlined processes for physical and occupational therapists, we can work together to ensure high-quality and continuous care for all Americans. A magical night at the Rawlings Gold Glove Awards. Celebrating the best fielders in baseball is always inspiring—these athletes make the hardest plays look effortless. But behind every “effortless” moment is something we don’t always see: relentless preparation, fundamentals repeated thousands of times, and a commitment to excellence that never wavers. What struck me most was reconnecting with the legends of my youth—players who defined what mastery looked like. Some are already in the Hall of Fame, and a few more absolutely deserve to be. Their greatness wasn’t luck. It was built in the dark. Every day. Brick by brick. It’s a powerful reminder for all of us in business and leadership: ✨ Greatness is not an act—it’s a habit. ✨ Consistency beats intensity. ✨ Fundamentals, practiced with purpose, elevate everything. Whether on the field or in your business the formula is the same: preparation, discipline, and the willingness to keep sharpening your craft. A special night celebrating baseball’s best—and a reminder to keep playing the long game in everything we do. ⚾💼 Thank you Rawlings Sporting Goods Major League Baseball (MLB) Spear Physical Therapy

  • We officially cut the ribbon at our new Bayside - 41st Ave location, and the celebration showcased the heart and pride that define this neighborhood. Clinical Director Vivek Sukumaran DPT, MA, TPI Level 2, shared heartfelt remarks about his parents’ immigrant journey to New York and even brought together three generations of his family to witness this milestone. He spoke about the deep sense of belonging he’s found in Bayside, a place where people welcome others with open arms and show up for one another. That spirit is exactly why Spear feels so connected to this community. Bayside is a place where generations lift each other up, where families create roots and memories — and we’re truly honored to be woven into that story. We’re grateful to everyone who joined us to mark the occasion, including Assemblyman Edward Braunstein, Congresswoman Grace Meng, and the office of Congressman Thomas Suozzi. A huge thank you to the Queens Chamber of Commerce, Bayside Business Association, Bayside Little League, and members of the NYC Department of Small Business Services for attending and for your unwavering support. Thank you for celebrating alongside our team. Cheers to growing with this community and continuing to serve Bayside with heart!

  • A huge congratulations to Jamie Lief, OTD, OTR/L, PCES, who recently presented her research at the AOTA Conference in Portland. Her presentation, “Occupational Therapy Evidence-Based Guide for the Treatment of Peripartum People,” highlighted an important and often under-discussed area of care: empowering individuals through every stage of the peripartum journey. Jamie’s dedication to evidence-based practice and her leadership within our pelvic health program continue to inspire us all. We’re proud to see her representing Spear on a national platform and helping advance the impact of occupational therapy in peripartum health. • From October 16-19, four Spear team members headed to Kansas City, Missouri, for the Education in Leadership Conference: Kyle Davis, PT, DPT, OCS, Sarah Lloyd, PT, DPT, SCS, Jeremy Crow, PT, DPT, CSCS, ART, SCS, and Lisa Yirce, PT, DPT. Over three days, they joined peers from across the country to explore topics shaping the future of physical therapy education, including AI in learning and combating burnout, as well as leveraging technology in clinical placements. A highlight: Kyle represented Spear on a panel, “Navigating Placement Processes with Purpose,” alongside Carrie Foeller, Director of Clinical Education at the University of Delaware. Together, they discussed how technology and collaboration help match students with the right specialty experiences at Spear, ensuring both students and mentors achieve meaningful growth. Between inspiring sessions, connecting with the NY NJ Physical Therapy Clinical Education Consortium, and a little Kansas City BBQ, our team left feeling energized and ready to continue driving our therapists and students toward excellence!
