  • BREAKING: Sen. Ben Ray Lujan (NM), Ranking Member Amy Klobuchar (MN), Rep. Jahana Hayes (CT-05) and Ranking Member Angie Craig (MN-2) have introduced the Restoring Food Security for American Families and Farmers Act of 2025 in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives to reverse the nearly $200 billion in cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) signed into this summer. The following is a statement from George Kelemen, senior vice president for Share Our Strength and its No Kid Hungry campaign: The legislation introduced this week would reverse the devastating cuts to SNAP signed into law this summer, helping ensure millions of Americans can continue to put food on the table for their families. Without swift action, our nation’s most effective anti-hunger program will soon be in crisis. SNAP helps ensure nearly 16 million kids get the nutrition they need. Already, 1 in 3 parents living on low-incomes worry about running out of food - they simply can’t afford for their grocery benefits to be cut. Beyond missing out on meals at home, when a child loses access to SNAP, it makes it harder to access school meals and Summer EBT. Plain and simple: if Congress doesn't intervene, we’re going to see a nationwide spike in child hunger in the coming years. Additionally, far too many are ignoring the economic impact these cuts will have. We’re talking about stores closing, jobs lost, fewer deliveries of fresh produce - it will be devastating for many communities across the country. The recent shutdown proved that already complex benefit systems cannot be overhauled overnight. H.R. 1 puts an unprecedented administrative and financial burden on states - in fact, the massive cost shift could make it so challenging to operate the program that, in the worst case scenario, some states could be forced to stop providing SNAP benefits altogether. States simply cannot fill the gap left when federal SNAP dollars disappear. We must not let this happen. We support this effort in Congress to protect SNAP and urge members on both sides of the aisle to stand with families, farmers and small businesses by acting quickly to pass this legislation and repeal H.R. 1’s devastating cuts to SNAP. "The most game-changing thing any of us can do is make sure the next generation never has to worry about survival before they ever get the chance to lead." And right now, that promise is not being fulfilled. Millions of families are missing out on SNAP benefits at this very moment — families who are simply trying to survive, not even thrive — making this quote more than aspirational; it’s a call to action. On Wednesday, November 12, I was deeply honored to share this sentiment, as well as my story as a former school nutrition participant, on behalf of Share Our Strength at the Crisp Game Changers Summit. As families across the nation fight to have food stamps reinstated before Thanksgiving, this conversation could not be more urgent. Together, our efforts helped raise $50,000 to support children experiencing hunger across the country. In a moment where advocacy, representation, and the threat of even more kids facing food insecurity hangs in the balance, every action matters. Every drop in the pond creates a ripple toward a future where no child has to go hungry. Thank you to No Kid Hungry for trusting me with this platform, and to Crisp for welcoming me into a room full of passionate, committed game changers. The battle against childhood hunger is far from over — but moments like this bring us one step closer to lasting change. Carmen Taylor, MSW

This past Saturday, November 15, we celebrated Habit’s 56th birthday the best way we know how: by giving back. We launched our first Good Habits Day with one simple idea. Enjoy a free Double Charburger and help feed kids in need. For a one dollar or more donation to Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry, guests enjoyed a free #1-ranked Double Char. Our biggest celebration was at our South Pasadena restaurant. The iHeartMedia team brought the party with Tye Hollywood and Menace. Guests enjoyed Spin the Grill prize giveaways, exclusive merch, and a few surprises. KTLA stopped by to capture the moment and share the story. Since 2015, we have partnered with No Kid Hungry and raised more than $3.2 million to help ensure every child gets the meals they need. One in five children in America experiences food insecurity. That is why this work matters. Thank you to everyone who made our first Good Habits Day one to remember. Read all about Good Habits Day 👉 https://lnkd.in/gMPM6idX

"SNAP benefits are crucial. Now I'm able to do more grocery shopping, create multiple meals, and meal plan more" - Anthony Bonner SNAP benefits build up a family's ability to be self-sustaining. With grocery prices rising, SNAP benefits make it possible for Anthony's family to cook healthy meals at home that meet the growing demand of a 13-year-old's stomach. With SNAP now fully funded and deposits flowing again, our emergency fundraiser with GiveDirectly has come to a close. Together, we were able to send almost $12 million directly to nearly 240,000 Propel users. That support added up to an estimated 4.4 million meals—meals that might otherwise have been missed. It doesn’t erase the impossible choices families have been navigating, but it made a real and immediate difference. You can read more about families’ experiences here: https://lnkd.in/eyJZ8aAh A huge thank-you to every donor and partner who stepped up in this moment, including Robin Hood, Share Our Strength, The Leon Levine Foundation, New York Health Foundation, Savvy, Insurify, byMae, and Babylist. We’re deeply grateful. #SNAPMatters #GovernmentShutdown #FoodSecurity #SocialImpact

  • Today, Congress passed a continuing resolution that ends the longest government shutdown in history, extending all federal funding through January 30. The package also included three full-year appropriations bills, including funding for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, making funding available for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), school meals, and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for Women and Children (WIC) through September 2026. The following is a statement from Anne Filipic, chief executive officer for Share Our Strength and its No Kid Hungry campaign: “Today’s agreement brings an end to an unnecessary hunger crisis created by an unprecedented lapse in SNAP benefits. We are pleased that the package to re-open the government included full year funding for critical nutrition programs like SNAP and WIC, providing families with the much needed certainty they deserve. “These past weeks have proven just how critical SNAP is for the nearly 42 million Americans who use it to afford groceries. We heard from parents who, without their November SNAP benefits, were forced to make impossible tradeoffs like whether to turn the heat on in their homes or buy groceries. Retailers told us they feared the loss of SNAP benefits would be felt throughout the supply chain, from fewer deliveries of fresh food, more spoiled products on the shelves, and potential closures of stores. “Now that the shutdown has come to an end, USDA must provide the necessary guidance to states to ensure every eligible family receives their full November SNAP benefits as quickly as possible. “The harsh reality is, even with the government re-open and full year funding secured, SNAP recipients are still at risk as the $200 billion in cuts to the program passed last summer begin to go into effect. If these historic nutrition cuts aren’t reversed, much of the harm we just witnessed will become a permanent reality. “During the shutdown, elected officials across the political spectrum championed legislation to ensure families could continue to receive SNAP, recognizing its importance to their constituents and local economies alike. We urge this same bipartisan spirit in the fight ahead to roll back the harmful cuts within H.R. 1, and ensure millions of Americans can continue to put food on the table for their families."
