After injury paralyzed him from the neck down, RockyNoHands tested many assistive technologies to reconnect with the world. He re-learned how to play video games with a mouth-operated controller and is now a pro gamer with multiple Guinness World Records and a significant following. We invited Rocky to Neuralink to share his story, learn about our technology, and discuss the possibilities of brain interfaces for paralysis and other unmet medical needs.

Neuralink is developing ultra-high bandwidth brain-machine interfaces to connect humans and computers.
About us
Neuralink is a team of exceptionally talented people. We are creating the future of brain-machine interfaces: building devices now that will help people with paralysis and inventing new technologies that will expand our abilities, our community, and our world. Our goal is to build a system with at least two orders of magnitude more communication channels (electrodes) than current clinically-approved devices. This system needs to be safe, it must have fully wireless communication through the skin, and it has to be ready for patients to take home and use on their own. Our device, called the Link, will be able to record from 1024 electrodes and is designed to meet these criteria.

As the first person to use a Neuralink device to control a robotic arm with his thoughts, Alex has been paving the way for building brain-computer interfaces that restore autonomy in both the digital and physical worlds 🦾 See more in this video with Alex and Barrow Neurological Institute.
Mounted on Alex Conley’s wheelchair is a robotic arm. And whether it’s flipping a light switch, opening a door, or feeding Alex a salted soft pretzel, the machine is taking its commands from Alex’s thoughts. With the PRIME Study, patients with quadriplegia due to spinal cord injury (SCI) and ALS underwent neurosurgery at Barrow Neurological Institute to receive the N1 Implant from Neuralink and explore how it could help restore their digital autonomy. Now, the CONVOY feasibility trial is taking this research a step further, with an emphasis on helping restore patients’ physical freedom. Alex, who has a cervical SCI, was the second patient to receive the N1 Implant at Barrow and overall, is the first person to use the device to control an assistive robotic arm. Watch the video to learn more about Alex’s brain-computer interface (BCI) journey.

🇬🇧 We’re excited to announce our first participant in the UK! Paul, who is paralyzed due to motor neuron disease, received his Neuralink implant at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust earlier this month and was able to control a computer with his thoughts just hours after surgery. He’s now working with our engineers to explore using the implant to play his favorite video games and perform other tasks that could enrich and restore autonomy in his daily life. This marks an important step toward making our technology available to help people around the world.

🇬🇧 We’re launching a clinical study in Great Britain! In partnership with University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, we’re exploring how our brain-computer interface can restore digital autonomy to individuals with severe paralysis by enabling them to control devices with their thoughts. The launch of this study in Great Britain builds upon the successes of our trials in the US and marks an important step towards bringing our life-changing BCI technology to individuals with neurological disorders around the world! If you are living with paralysis caused by conditions such as spinal cord injury and ALS, you may qualify to participate in this study. In sharing our story with investors and our internal team, we realized there's no reason we shouldn’t share that very same story with the rest of the world. So in 2 weeks, we’ll have a public demo where we share that presentation with some bonus content. Stay tuned.
We’re excited to announce our $650M Series E fundraising with participation from key investors including ARK Invest, DFJ Growth, Founders Fund, G42, Human Capital, Lightspeed, QIA, Sequoia Capital, Thrive Capital, Valor Equity Partners, Vy Capital, amongst others. We’re building technology to transform people’s lives: helping restore autonomy to those with motor, speech, or vision impairment by enabling them to control computers and robotic arms with their minds, output verbal thought as text, and generate visual perception. With this funding, we accelerate our path to bringing life-changing capabilities to more people, and continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with brain-computer interfaces. If you or someone you love is living with severe motor, speech, or vision impairment, join our Patient Registry to stay up to date on our clinical trials: https://lnkd.in/g83nWCep If you’re an impact-driven engineer or operator excited to shape the future of humanity, apply to our open roles: https://lnkd.in/gMNC2st See our latest blog post for more details on our fundraise and stay tuned as we plan to share more updates on our progress and roadmap in the coming weeks. https://lnkd.in/e3SuFXYT
