Zoë (Vanderbilt ’26), a Medicine, Health, and Society major on the pre-law and pre-med track, has experienced Matriculate from both perspectives: first as a High School Fellow, and later as an Advising Fellow. Reflecting on her journey, Zoë shared, "As someone who didn't have anyone in their family attend college traditionally, but also didn't occupy the niche of a first-generation student, this program was integral to me navigating the college application process. Being able to provide the support I received from my Advising Fellow my junior/senior year has been deeply meaningful, and has given me a much greater appreciation for higher education." #AdvisingFellows #CollegeAccess #HighSchoolFellows

As an Advising Fellow, Chioma (Smith College ’27, Computer Science & Quantitative Economics) helps students reach their college goals. Chioma shared, "I loved every moment of working with my High School Fellows. A particular moment that struck me was my HSF texting me by 5 AM to let me know that he had gotten off the waitlist for his dream school. That news made my day." 🥳 🎓 #CollegeAccess #AdvisingFellows

💬 “To me, Matriculate is beyond advising—it’s truly become a second family.” Katelyn (Northwestern University ’26, Biological Sciences & Global Health) has served as an Advising Fellow, Head Advising Fellow, and National Advising Fellow Leadership Team member. After a year of virtual advising, she finally met her High School Fellow in person, and celebrated his college acceptances together. Now, they still keep in touch as he thrives at Harvard. Katelyn shared, "After a year full of virtual advising, it was rewarding to arrange a lunch with my High School Fellow to celebrate his accomplishments and acceptances with him in person. He likewise thanked me for my guidance and for instilling confidence in him. Since then, we’ve formed a friendship and now frequently check in as he thrives at Harvard University. To me, Matriculate is beyond advising—it’s truly become a second family. I’m immensely grateful for all the staff, student leaders (who have become great friends!), and anyone else I’ve crossed paths with for making my time at Matriculate so fulfilling, full of growth, and transformative!" #CollegeAccess

"One of my High School Fellows managed to surprise me with their acceptance. They didn't tell me they were applying to my university, and managed to conceal it as I helped them get their application and essays ready. When they finally got accepted, they revealed that one of the universities I'd helped them apply to was my own, that they were accepted, and planned to attend. I was very shocked by that, and it's something I'll never forget." Naseer (Johns Hopkins ’25), an Advising Fellow and Head Advising Fellow alum, shared this story about the connections that make Matriculate’s advising model so powerful. "One of my High School Fellows told me how he was interviewed for a full ride scholarship and one of the interviewers asked the exact question I made up during a mock interview about his research. Ultimately, his answer made him stand out during the interview because I had asked him that specifically before and he was ready." Advising Fellows like Natalia (Northwestern University '25) help high school students navigate the college process and find their best-fit schools. "A student I advised once confided that her dream was to become a doctor, but she feared her family's financial situation might hold her back. I was grateful to play a small role in her college application process and now, she's headed to Princeton University on a full-ride QuestBridge scholarship, pursuing the pre-med track." -- Maxwell Love, a Biology and Business major at University of California, Berkeley and one of our incredible Advising Fellows from Matriculate’s last class.
