Recently, I shared my thoughts on new bipartisan legislation, the 988 LGBTQ+ Youth Access Act, introduced to codify the 988 lifeline’s specialized services for LGBTQ+ young people. We here at GLSEN are pleased that both sides of the aisle are aligned on the notion that helpful resources for LGBTQ+ youth in this country are vital, especially in today’s climate. GLSEN is sounding the alarm after a Florida teacher was dismissed for using a student's preferred name—an unprecedented enforcement of the state’s restrictive name and pronoun law. This incident marks the first known dismissal of its kind and reflects a troubling escalation of anti-LGBTQ+ policies. GLSEN's Director of Public Policy, Brian Dittmeier, sheds light on the issue in an interview with The Washington Post: "Not only is this a direct attack on educators who support trans students, but it also is an indicator of the bureaucratic overreach of antitransgender policy," said Dittmeier. "A teacher could potentially be fired for calling a student Tim instead of Timothy." Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eBks2f_d

Daniel Errico, author of "The Bravest Knight Who Ever Lived," is donating part of the proceeds from the sales of the book to GLSEN from now until the end of June! "The Bravest Knight" is a great example of the types of inclusive stories included in the Rainbow Library, our program that sends free LGBTQ+ affirming text sets to more than 8,100 schools across the country. To order a copy of “The Bravest Knight Who Ever Lived,” or to request a Rainbow Library set for your school, visit the link in our bio!
