About us

In 2004, the Giuseppe and Pericle Lavazza Foundation ETS was established by Lavazza Group to promote and implement economic, social, and environmental sustainability projects for coffee producing communities worldwide. Our projects focus on improving the yield and quality of coffee production, at the same time as fostering a spirit of enterprise among producers to improve their living conditions. Our approach centers on supporting the autonomy of local communities by enabling women to work profitably and involving the new generations, by sharing good farming practices, and by introducing technological instruments to mitigate the effects of climate change. We entrust the implementation of these initiatives to local partners, deepening the involvement of farming communities and cultivating trust among all stakeholders. Furthermore, during our initial two decades of operation, we have actively engaged in providing support to populations affected by natural disasters, health emergencies and conflicts. Since 2022, we’ve also published the Social Report, a reporting tool that provides a clear and transparent overview of all the activities we promote.

  • 🌱 A Cup of Learning arriva a Catania! #ACupOfLearning #LavazzaTrainingCenter

  • Throwback Tuesday | Episode 03 Global partnerships for a sustainable coffee future Our Throwback Tuesday's series continues with an inspiring conversation with Jeffrey Sachs, economist and global leader in sustainable development. From the US, he shared his perspective on how the coffee sector can contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and build resilient, thriving communities. 🌍 Sachs highlighted that while the world has made progress toward the 2030 Agenda, we are still behind on crucial targets — from climate change to poverty reduction. Yet, he emphasized optimism and the power of technology: smarter farming, zero-carbon energy, and innovative solutions can transform the coffee value chain. 🤝 His key message for the coffee sector? #Collaboration. We can do more than improve farming — we can help create holistic community solutions by joining forces with local and national governments, development banks, and international partners. Together, we can address education, healthcare, infrastructure, and digital access alongside sustainable coffee production. ☕ For the coffee sector, this means building partnerships that multiply value — benefiting farmers, communities, and the planet. Sustainability is not achieved alone; it is built through shared effort, aligned purpose, and collective action. Collaboration is not just a strategy — it is the foundation for a coffee future that works for everyone. 💡Dive into the methodology "Prosperity for Coffee Producers Through SDG-Based Coffee Plans" here: https://lnkd.in/epbTeQCT

  • Throwback Tuesday | Episode 02 Unlocking opportunities in the coffee sector Our journey into the future of coffee continues with the second chapter of the Throwback Tuesdays dedicated to the event "The Coffeeprint of Tomorrow: Cultivating Coffee Value". After exploring the role of the International Coffee Organization with Vanusia Nogueira, this panel focused on a key topic: “Unlocking opportunities in the coffee sector” — how to open new paths toward a more sustainable, inclusive, and innovative coffee value chain. It was a dynamic and multilayered discussion featuring leading voices from production, cooperation, and finance: Mariana Veloso Lima (Prospera AgroQuality), Osvaldo Zucchino (El Gigante Coffee Estate), Teddy Esteve (Ecom Agroindustrial Corp), Isabel van Bemmelen (Rabobank | Aon WR Innovation), and Marco Riccardo Rusconi (Italian Agency for Development Cooperation). 🌱 For Mariana Lima Veloso, Brazil remains a global benchmark not only for volumes but for its ability to innovate and experiment with regenerative practices. Her message was clear: coffee’s value lies in strong relationships and care for the land. Sustainability, she said, is made of daily choices and long-term partnerships. 👩🏽🌾 Osvaldo Zucchino, a young Guatemalan producer, shared a powerful view on the role of his generation. “Many young people no longer want to be farmers,” he noted, “but we can be the bridge between tradition and innovation.” His estate has cut water use by up to 800,000 liters per harvest — proving that small changes can make a big difference. 🤝 Marco Riccardo Rusconi stressed the need for development that is truly shared: “We do not impose models; we propose solutions.” From Ethiopia to Kenya, the Agency’s projects show that technology becomes transformative only when paired with training and local engagement — especially empowering women in cooperatives. 🔗 Teddy Esteve reflected on how traders’ roles are evolving — from intermediaries to development partners ensuring both profitability for farmers and quality for roasters. “Our job today is not to buy low and sell high,” he said, “but to make sure every link in the chain generates value.” 🌳 Isabel van Bemmelen from Rabobank described how finance can drive sustainability through carbon credits and agroforestry. The Lavazza Foundation’s work in Colombia shows how a virtuous circle can be created: producing better, protecting the environment, and improving farmers’ livelihoods. A shared message emerged: only through collaboration among producers, institutions, companies, and new generations we can build a coffee sector that lasts — where value circulates, knowledge is shared, and every actor becomes an agent of change. Because “unlocking opportunities” means exactly that — opening doors to a future where coffee continues to be a resource for people and for the planet.

  • Throwback Tuesday | Episode 01 We are pleased to launch our Throwback Tuesday series — five posts, every Tuesday morning — to look back at the key moments and reflections from The Coffeeprint of Tomorrow: Cultivating Coffee Value, the event held on October 7th in Turin. ☕ We begin with the insightful words of Vanusia Nogueira, Executive Director of the International Coffee Organization (ICO), who explored a crucial question: What is the true value of coffee? Coffee sustains over 25 million farms, involving 125 million people across 80 countries. It represents livelihoods, cultures, and ecosystems intertwined — a sector valued at 200 billion dollars per year, with over 3 billion cups consumed daily. Yet behind these numbers lie today’s global challenges: 🌡️ The impacts of climate change and extreme weather events on production. 📈 The volatility of prices and the fragile balance between supply and demand. 🔁 The need for public–private partnerships and a circular coffee economy to ensure sustainability for future generations. Lavazza Foundation plays a key role within the Coffee Public-Private Task Force, led by ICO — a platform working to improve farmers’ prosperity, promote equitable income, and create shared value across the entire coffee chain. 💬 As Vanusia Nogueira reminded us: “We need to think about the next generations — learn, innovate, and help them be proud to stay connected to coffee.”

  • October 1st is International Coffee Day (ICD)   Every cup of coffee tells a story — of people, land, resilience, and shared passion. Launched in 2015 by the International Coffee Organization, International Coffee Day is a moment to celebrate coffee not only as a beverage, but as a symbol of connection between millions of people across the world — from the hands that grow it to those that enjoy it every morning. This year, the Lavazza Foundation, Lavazza Group, and World Coffee Research join forces once again to celebrate this day by reaffirming a shared commitment: to secure the future of coffee through innovation, sustainability, and collaboration. Through research and variety development, we’re helping deliver better, more resilient coffee trees to farmers — empowering them to adapt to climate change, protect biodiversity, and continue cultivating excellence for generations to come. Because coffee’s future depends on the people behind it. On this day, we honor all the coffee producers whose hard work, knowledge, and dedication fill every cup with meaning, purpose, and hope. Let’s celebrate coffee — and those who make it possible! ☕
