"How do we manage pancreatic cyst surveillance at scale?" This question haunts surgical oncologists and GI specialists everywhere. The traditional answer: You don't. Most programs cap at a few hundred patients because manual tracking is unsustainable. Dr. Russell C. Langan, MD, FACS, FSSO found a different answer at RWJBarnabas Health: AI-powered surveillance that acts as a continuous "background listener." The result? → Automatic identification of incidental findings → over 4,100 patients in active surveillance up from 110) → 90 cancers caught (more than half in early stages) He's sharing the entire playbook—technical requirements, workflow design, ROI data—in a free webinar December 2, at 6PM ET. This isn't theory. It's a working model you can adapt for your institution. Perfect for: Anyone in the pancreas space looking to improve outcomes while capturing downstream value. Pancreatic cancer’s biggest problem isn’t clinical expertise — it’s infrastructure. Academic Medical Centers excel at treating advanced pancreatic cancer. But most still lack the infrastructure to systematically manage the 40M Americans with a pancreatic cyst — a key indicator of elevated risk. The consequences are profound: ✅ Pancreatic cancer now has the worst case-to-death ratio in oncology (1.3). ✅ Incidence is rising 1% per year. ✅ Younger patients are increasingly affected. ✅ And most cysts are discovered incidentally, meaning outcomes depend on manual follow-up processes that often fail. Health systems have developed scalable surveillance programs for breast, lung, and colorectal cancers. But for high-risk pancreatic cysts, workflows remain ad hoc, fragmented, and non-scalable. AMCs are uniquely positioned to close this gap. They own the full continuum of care — imaging → specialty evaluation → surgery — and have the expertise to build systematic cyst surveillance programs. What’s needed now is the infrastructure to make that care scalable: 🔹 Accurate identification + clinical validation 🔹 Evidence-based next steps at the point of care 🔹 Proactive longitudinal follow-up over months and years This piece breaks down the clinical urgency, the operational model for systematic surveillance, and the strategic opportunity for AMCs to close a critical gap in early detection. 👉 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/g4AxrGUn #AIinhealthcare #healthcareinnovation #defydisease #cancerprevention #pancreas

"We were stuck at 110 patients. Our team knew thousands more needed surveillance, but manual systems couldn't scale." That's Dr. Russell C. Langan, MD, FACS, FSSO, Chief Surgical Officer at RWJBarnabas Health, describing the problem every pancreatic program faces. Today? 3,600+ patients in active surveillance. The difference: AI-powered identification and monitoring. The results: ✅ 55 cancers identified ✅ 50% caught in early stages ✅ 3,075 downstream exams captured ✅ Same team, 33x more patients December 2, 6 PM EST | Free webinar Dr. Langan is sharing his complete implementation playbook—from automatic patient identification to measurable ROI. 🔍 “You never know when it’s going to be you — or someone you love — who benefits.” A routine scan for a sinus issue revealed a 5 cm mass on the thyroid that may have just saved a health-system executive’s life. Later, another scan found a stable lung nodule—showing how consistent, intelligent management of incidental findings can both save lives and reduce unnecessary care. Sometimes incidental findings aren’t incidental. They’re opportunities to deliver smarter, more proactive care. 🚨 🚨 🚨 We will let our leader, Dr. Akrum Al-Zubaidi, D.O. FCCP's share below, but to say we are proud and truly humbled to be here is an understatement. This milestone is a testament to the relentless optimism of every physician, nurse, patient navigator, healthcare administrator, hospital IT, and all the people who have worked for and with Eon over the years. Everyone who believes a sea change is possible. Together, let's continue to #defydisease #healthcareinnovation #AI #patientcare #announcement
“I believe that huge change will come from a small group of people.” I shared this in a blog for the Eon website last year. That, while people touted that the healthcare system was broken, I knew it was not hopeless. I remain relentlessly optimistic. Today, I get to celebrate the proof. We started Eon with the vision to make patients healthier and healthcare affordable and a mission to save lives and give people more tomorrows. That's why I am excited, humbled, and proud to share that today we announced we have surpassed 500 million (half a BILLION) #radiology reports analyzed. And since 2021, Eon has identified 20 million abnormalities. 20 MILLION! Here’s why that matters. Incidental findings are present in about 40% of imaging studies, yet nearly 70% of patients never receive appropriate follow-up. That gap can lead to delayed diagnoses and, tragically, preventable deaths. The more exams analyzed, the more abnormalities identified, the more opportunities to catch disease at its earliest stage. We are proud and grateful to be partnering with 75+ health systems and 1,000+ facilities. I could only dream about this impact when we set out over 10 years ago. We are in a new era of care. We have even more innovation on the horizon that will help health systems manage incidental findings with greater precision than ever before, reduce the FTE burnout associated with the AI validation cascade, and continue to drive substantial clinical and financial impact. We do this while putting patient care first - always. To every person who has worked at Eon and every health system partner who believes in this mission: thank you. You’re helping to redefine what’s possible in patient care—and we’re just getting started. To learn more about this milestone, I linked the full press release. I am heading to #HLTH2025, next week to connect with the physicians, nurses, and care providers at the frontlines of transformation. Send me a message to connect onsite. I’d love to talk about how we can continue to #defydisease together. https://lnkd.in/gHJCnw2H
