DeviceTalks West last month underscored how quickly medtech is evolving and what the next generation of devices will demand from designers, engineers, and manufacturers. These are challenges and opportunities we are all navigating together. Our panel with Ryan Thomson, Donna Bibber, and EndoTheia, Inc. CTO Joshua Gafford, guided by moderator Tom Salemi, focused on the reality of miniaturization. We discussed how engineers navigate distal anatomy, create devices measured in microns, and use technologies like steerable articulation and precision micromolding to open the door to new clinical applications. Donna Bibber’s session on Design for Manufacturing at the micro scale outlined how early decisions influence long-term success. She covered submicron tooling, thin-wall molding, material behavior, and the importance of full-factorial tolerance understanding during the design phase. The takeaway: Good DfM is essential when devices become smaller and more complex. We enjoyed the discussion, the engagement, and the opportunity to share ongoing work in this space. If you attended DeviceTalks West and had your own takeaways or questions, we would be glad to hear them. And if you are developing minimally invasive or micro-scale devices and want to talk through your next steps, our team is here to help.
