  • D&B’s Indian Island Project Scores Another Major Award   Suffolk County’s Indian Island County Park Living Shoreline project has been recognized with the 2025 Best Restored Shoreline Award by the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA). The award was formally presented during the National Coastal Conference in Long Beach, California.   The Indian Island project fused ecological restoration, shoreline stability, and cultural preservation into a design that would serve both nature and community for generations to come. The challenges were many: protecting a bluff that had suffered severe erosion and was threatening both important Native American archaeological sites and public access, while restoring tidal marshes and improving coastal resilience. The design features living segmented emergent rock sills enhanced with native oysters, marsh habitat restoration, strategic bluff stabilization, and a new public stairway. These elements work together to reduce wave energy, encourage sand retention, and preserve the natural aesthetic and ecological function of the shoreline, while maintaining public access. https://lnkd.in/emPWf9Ed
