The County of Imperial had a great time presenting with Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez at Benchmark Week 2025. It was an energizing opportunity to showcase how Imperial County is building a truly vertically integrated ecosystem that connects geothermal power, direct lithium extraction, advanced manufacturing, and long term economic growth. Supervisor Ryan Kelley highlighted the unique workforce pathways that have been created to support this opportunity and Deputy CEO Bari Bean, MBA emphasized how the County has completed over three years of robust analysis over the 51,000-acre opportunity as well as over 600 engagements with the community. Benchmark Mineral Intelligence brings together the global leaders shaping the future of critical minerals, and it was inspiring to share how Lithium Valley is moving from concept to reality with real projects, real investments, and real momentum. Our message was simple: Imperial County is ready. We have the resource, the regulatory pathways, the community partnerships, and the vision to support responsible development at scale. Thank you to Assemblyman Gonzalez for championing our region and joining us on stage to spotlight the opportunities ahead and the role legislators play in supporting local success. Together, we are advancing development, strengthening supply chain resilience, and ensuring that Imperial County plays a central role in powering the clean energy transition. #LithiumValley #BenchmarkWeek #lithium #energy #geothermal #AlwaysOn #development
About us
Imperial County is home to approximately 180,000 residents which live and work within its seven cities (Brawley, Calexico, Calipatria, El Centro, Holtville, Imperial and Westmorland) and eight unincorporated communities (Bombay Beach, Heber, Niland, Ocotillo, Palo Verde, Salton City, Seeley and Winterhaven). The geothermal decade is now ⚡️ The opening session at Geothermal Rising in Reno underscored a new reality, geothermal has entered its acceleration phase. The tone this year wasn’t just optimistic, it was decisive. Drilling speeds are up 3×, many technology costs are down 75%, and geothermal is now cost-competitive with other clean, firm power sources. Many highlights were shared by industry, including from those who are operating in the County of Imperial: ♦️Ormat Technologies, Inc. celebrated its 60th anniversary with new acquisitions, a 25-year PPA for Heber 1, and over $60 million in new project funding. ♦️BHE Renewables is advancing their pilot Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) alongside geothermal power, proof that clean baseload energy and critical minerals can work hand-in-hand. ♦️Baker Hughes and Controlled Thermal Resources Holdings, Inc. are redefining geothermal scale, targeting 500 MW from Hell’s Kitchen project (phase 2). Fervo Energy announced their new Geothermal Sustainable Development Pact, and Google highlighted their commitment to geothermal energy powering a renewable future. The time is now, and I’m excited for our region to help lead it! #GeothermalRising #ImperialCounty #Geothermal #AlwaysOn #Baseload #CriticalMinerals #Innovation #Energy
