practical support for great science teaching
About us
CRS provides resources, in-class volunteers, and teacher professional development to promote the teaching of science in elementary and secondary schools. CRS was founded in 1997 in response to the personal experience of two educators with the barriers elementary teachers experience to doing science. CRS recruits and trains scientists to bring engaging, standards-based, hands-on lessons into the classroom. CRS believes that an early exposure to science will not only inform students' future decisions as adults and citizens, but can offer exciting routes for learning in the elementary classroom. The organization has grown to serve more than 2000 teachers in Alameda County. CRS is a learning organization and programs have evolved to meet the needs of teachers who are more technologically literate. In the past year, CRS has garnered local and national recognition, including recognition at a Bayer-sponsored national conference on Best Practices in K-12 STEM Education, as well as receiving the 2009 University of California Berkeley Chancellor’s Public Service Award for Campus-Community Programs.

CRS is excited to build on our work with Ten Strands and the #SeedstoSolutions #environmentalliteracy curriculum. We wrote the 4th grade unit focused on renewable energy and energy conservation, and have recently developed professional development workshops support K-5 and 7th and 8th grade teachers to adapt the curriculum to their classroom's needs. Thank you to the Hayward Unified School District middle school teachers for a wonderful learning session, and we look forward to diving into #energyresilience in our upcoming workshop with BERKELEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT's Science Resource Teachers! https://lnkd.in/gVh6CKyy Maybelle Miranda

Build your science community early-- we're raising 300,000 to bring thousands of science explorations to the next 300,000 researchers, innovators, environmental stewards and critical thinkers. Every student needs the opportunity to meet amazing real-life scientists and engineers, "do" cool science together, and learn about possible STEM career pathways. Give today and help us reach our goal: https://lnkd.in/g2qvKmN8 #Investinstem #sciencecommunity #scienceeducation #K5science

Professional Development about #environmentalliteracy is always fun with James Madison Elementary teachers! We kicked off a 3 part series in October for TK, K, 1st and 4th grade educators focused on #environmentaljustice and climate literacy. We look forward to our next session centered on #environmentalengineering in the new year! San Leandro Unified School District

Thank you to Ava Community Energy for supporting our first Energy Resilience Festival at James Madison in San Leandro Unified School District! Students had an amazing time exploring wind turbines and the power grid with University of California, Berkeley #STEM volunteers, learning how they can help their communities become #energyresilient. We can't wait to provide more students with energy explorations in a few weeks at Oakland Unified School District! #avacommunityenergy #InvestinSTEM #energyresilience #avagivesback #environmentalliteracy

Congratulations to the thousands of STEM professionals -- from grad students at University of California, Berkeley to postdocs at Berkeley Lab and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, to employees of our many industry partners -- for getting us to the amazing milestone this year: Community Resources for Science outreach programs have directly engaged 300,000 elementary and middle school students across the East Bay! That's 300,000 future researchers, innovators, environmental stewards and critical thinkers who have had a chance to meet amazing real-life scientists and engineers, "do" cool science together, and learn about possible career pathways. Now, we're working to raise the funds and recruit & train the STEM volunteers to reach the NEXT 300,000! We invite you to join us! https://lnkd.in/g2qvKmN8 Thank you too for the many individual donors and industry partners who have made this impact in the community possible. https://lnkd.in/g3BW2jrj
