  • It was a beautiful day on Monday as Berkeley County leaders and administration celebrated the groundbreaking for the new North Berkeley Public Safety Campus in Bonneau! This new 16,800-square-foot facility will become home to the North Berkeley Fire District, as well as new substations for the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and EMS. The campus will also function as a backup 911 center and include a helicopter pad and boats to support emergency responses on Lake Moultrie and the Santee River. With an investment of approximately $5.8 million, this project marks an important step forward in improving safety and service for Berkeley County residents. #OneBerkeley #BerkeleyCountySC

  • A special moment during Berkeley County Council Committee meetings on November 10. Supervisor Johnny Cribb honored Councilman Caldwell Pinckney for his 25 years of service to Berkeley County. Councilman Pinckney has served on County Council since 2000. We are grateful for his dedicated and outstanding service. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to the people of Berkeley County. "One of the things I’ve always strived for in life is to do all the good I can, while I can, for all that I can. What better way of doing that than in local government, because charity begins at home, so service begins at home.” - Councilman Caldwell Pinckney, Jr., District 7

  • Berkeley County Council approved resurfacing work for 181 county-owned roads as part of the 2025-2026 One Cent Sales Tax Local Resurfacing Package. View the full list: https://bit.ly/47EqMqL. Berkeley County is preparing bid packages for the project, which will determine costs and a timeline for completion. Funding for these projects will stem from the County’s One Cent Sales Tax Program. In November 2022, Berkeley County residents voted, through a referendum, to continue the County’s One Cent Sales Tax Program another seven years. In addition to resurfacing projects, the One Cent Sales Tax Program helps fund improvements to highways, roads, bridges, other transportation-related project facilities, and Greenbelt Preservation projects. • Your penny at work 🚧 We appreciated everyone who joined us for the Tanner Ford Blvd and Tanner Hall Blvd Intersection Improvements Project public meeting. This project - funded by the Berkeley County One Cent Sales Tax Program - will help improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and make travel safer for both drivers and pedestrians. • We were grateful to participate Wednesday in a special groundbreaking ceremony for the new community center in St. Stephen’s Forty-One/ Wilder community. It was uplifting to see the acknowledgment of key individuals who contributed to making this project a reality. The new 12,000 center will feature a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen, a full-size basketball court, locker rooms/showers, and a versatile meeting space. Berkeley County Supervisor Johnny Cribb & Councilman Steve Davis delivered remarks, highlighting the County’s continued investment in access to essential services that improve community members’ quality of life. Project funding is being provided by the County’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, Accommodations Fee, and American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. The facility aims to offer a welcoming space for all ages to gather, learn, and stay active. Construction is set to begin in early 2026. #OneBerkeley #BerkeleyCountySC

  • We are proud to receive this honorable mention honor with Dorchester County Government and Charleston County Government for this Tri-County project!

We celebrated the best of counties this week at the SCAC Annual Awards Luncheon. Projects highlighted innovative programs, cost-saving measures and the importance of intergovernmental relationships. Greenville County (Greenville County Emergency Management) and Pickens County, South Carolina won the Barrett Lawrimore Regional Cooperation Memorial Award this year for their coordinated multi-agency response to the 2025 Table Rock Complex Fire. Thousands of personnel worked together to contain the blaze that burned 15,973 acres of land so that there were no fatalities and limited injuries. Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties took home an Honorable Mention for the Tri-County Biological Science Center, a lab designed to provide critical DNA analysis for law enforcement and ease court backlogs in the judicial system. The J. Mitchell Graham Memorial Award was awarded to SPARTANBURG COUNTY for their CERT91 program which uses trained volunteers as a dedicated 911 response team for non-emergent calls. Since it’s start, CERT91 has handled 2,100+ calls and contributed 11,000+ volunteer hours, improving response times and enhancing the quality of life for county residents. Honorable Mentions in population categories were given for the J. Mitchell Graham Award: 🌟 Edgefield County - new public safety complex 🌟 Georgetown County - GOAT (Georgetown Outdoor Adventure Trails) program 🌟 Dorchester County - innovative 2025 hurricane preparedness program Congratulations to each of our award winners who demonstrated that creative problem-solving and collaboration can create real results for South Carolina communities!

  • During Monday's Community Services Committee meeting, Berkeley County Council joined together with municipal and local law enforcement leaders around the County to proclaim October 23-31 as RED RIBBON WEEK. This initative spans nationwide, with this year's theme being "Life is a Puzzle, Solve it Drug Free." Red Ribbon Week encourages Berkeley County citizens to participate in educational activities focused on drug prevention. The goal of the initiative is to make a visible statement that the County is committed to being drug free. For more than 30 years, the Berkeley County Prevention Board has carried out its committment to helping create a safe and drug-free environment across the County. Committee Chair, Councilman Jared Brooks, read a special proclamation establishing that businesses, local governments, parents, law enforcement, media, religious institutions, schools, senior citizens, service organizations, and youth all demonstrate a commitment to a healthy, drug-free lifestyle by proudly wearing and displaying red ribbons during the week-long campaign. Berkeley County also commits its resources to ensure the campaign’s success. #RedRibbonWeek #OneBerkeley #BerkeleyCountySC

  • What are safe, circular, and popping up at intersections all over the Charleston region? Traffic’s polite little carousel ride: R-O-U-N-D-A-B-O-U-T-S 👏 In fact, it’s #NationalRoundaboutWeek, and #BerkeleyCountySC is proud of the roundabout projects we’ve helped implement across communities in recent years to improve safety and reduce congestion. 🛣️ Experts say they are safer than four-way stops and other infrastructure alternatives. According to the Federal Highway Administration, roundabouts can even reduce fatal and injury crashes by up to 82%. 🪙 In recent years, we’ve constructed roundabouts through our One Cent Sales Tax Program at Sangaree Parkway and Royle Road and Daniel Island Drive and Seven Farms Drive. 🏆 The DI roundabout even won an Engineering Excellence Award in 2020 by the American Council of Engineering Companies. The award specifically went to the County’s engineering and design consultant — Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering. Additionally, a roundabout was improved at Henry E. Brown Jr. Blvd. and Adler Road as part of the County’s Henry E. Brown Jr. Blvd. Phase II Improvement Project, completed earlier this year. We also have the following roundabouts in design: • Black Tom Road at Black Tom Road Extension • Cooper Store Road at Black Tom Road Extension • River Landing Drive at Seven Farms Drive • Royle Road at Farmington Road/Treeland Road • Tanner Ford Boulevard at Tanner Hall Boulevard Check out a video by SCDOT on how to navigate a roundabout: http://bit.ly/42eL3QB #OneBerkeley
