American Rivers is today announcing our disapproval of the Environmental Protection Agency’s new proposed definition of the “Waters of the United States” (WOTUS) provision of the Clean Water Act. As written currently, the rule would dramatically reduce the reasonable science-based protections used to protect our wetlands, streams, lakes, and rivers across the country. Last week, it was a pleasure to welcome Congressman Greg Steube (FL-17) to Myakka River State Park for an informative and picturesque tour of Myakka’s Wilderness Preserve - a 7,500 acre unique and unaltered Wild Florida gem. I am grateful for Rep. Steube’s continued dedication to advance his H.R. 642, the Myakka Wild and Scenic River Act of 2025, to designate the 34 miles of the Myakka River in Sarasota County as a Partnership Wild and Scenic River (PWSR). In addition to numerous other benefits, the designation will protect Myakka’s remarkably outstanding values - many of which were in clear view during the tour - for generations to come. Many thanks to Alex Blair , Dana Goulet and Ronnie Carabbia for their help coordinating this meaningful visit. Texas wastes 186 billion gallons annually from leaky pipes. We can't afford this. Prop 4 invests $1B yearly to fix infrastructure & protect resources with existing funds — no new taxes. Let's secure our water future. Texans, don't sit this election out. Voting closes tomorrow: https://voteforprop4.com/

Safe, clean water shouldn't depend on your zip code. Every Texan deserves reliable water infrastructure and freedom from constant boil water notices. Prop 4 means fewer boil notices, safer water systems, and more reliable service — without new taxes. https://voteforprop4.com/
