I’m thrilled to share that Georgia State University has officially launched a new Exchange partnership with the University of Mannheim in Germany! 🇩🇪 🇺🇸 This collaboration is especially meaningful to me because it grew out of conversations during my participation in the Baden-Württemberg Seminar located in Germany. During that visit, I had the pleasure of meeting the amazing Lukas Dausend and discovered just how much our universities have in common. The University of Mannheim also offers a wide range of STEM courses, which aligns perfectly with the growing interest and needs of our study abroad participants here at GSU. I am also excited for this partnership as GSU becomes the University of Mannheim’s first partner in the state of Georgia! A big thanks to everyone that helped with the launch of this partnership. Here’s to the start of a meaningful collaboration and exciting new opportunities ahead! 🌏 #StudyAbroad #GlobalEducation #InternationalPartnerships #GeorgiaStateUniversity #UniversityofMannheim #GlobalEngagement #AACRAO #NAFSA #BWSeminar

Dr. Simmons’ talk, “Creating a Student Narrative: Metacognition as the Holy Grail of Education” will explain how higher education can empower students to own, reflect on, and articulate their learning experiences. By connecting academic, co-curricular, and experiential learning, institutions can help learners build meaningful narratives that drive mobility, credentials, and lifelong growth. I had the chance to check "be on a podcast" off my bucket list when I sat down with Loida González Utley on AACRAO's Transfer Tea for “Why Advocate Anyway?” Our conversation grew out of our time together on Capitol Hill during Hill Day—walking office to office, telling students’ stories, and learning (again) that advocacy is rarely straightforward or fast. But it matters. Even when the outcomes aren’t immediate. Even when the process feels complex. Even when our calendars are already overflowing. We talked about what keeps us showing up: 🔹 the students who trust us with their journeys 🔹 the institutions working to remove barriers 🔹 the belief that policy can change—when people are willing to show up and speak up If you’re curious about the “why” behind higher-ed advocacy, or just need a reminder that your voice has impact, I’d love for you to give it a listen. 🎙️ Episode: “Why Advocate Anyway?” on AACRAO's Transfer Tea 🎧 Hosted by: Loida González Utley 🔗 Link: https://lnkd.in/ggS89ayb Grateful for the conversation—and for everyone out there continuing to push for better pathways for our students.

A new report from Ellucian surveyed over 1,500 learners, finding that students are not turning away from higher education but are frustrated by unclear pathways, high costs, and systems that don’t connect to real-world career outcomes. Despite considering higher education a stepping stone to a good career, more than 50% of learners who opt out say affordability is their biggest barrier to completing their degree.
