A productive and thought-provoking week at RiskMinds International 2025 in London. It was a privilege to join the FirstRand delegation for a series of strategic engagements with global regulators, CROs, economists and senior risk leaders shaping the evolution of financial-sector regulation and market structure. Across the week, several themes stood out strongly: • Regulatory developments reshaping global market structure, including shifts in the US Treasury ecosystem and supervisory expectations across jurisdictions. • Advancements in AI and machine learning, and the growing emphasis on governance, explainability, oversight and responsible adoption. • Model-risk management and stress testing, as supervisors increase focus on transparency, operational resilience and robust validation frameworks. • Capital resilience and balance-sheet strength, as banks navigate an increasingly complex macro-regulatory and interest-rate environment. A theme raised by several global financial institutions, policy institutes and regulators was the challenge of applying standardised prudential frameworks across highly diverse banking models — highlighting the need for approaches that maintain resilience while recognising business-model heterogeneity across markets. I am grateful to FirstRand for the opportunity to participate as part of the delegation and for the engaging discussions and strategic perspectives shared throughout the week. Warm congratulations to Thloni Mhango, FRM on her recent appointment as CRO of FNB Commercial Banking — a well-deserved milestone and a testament to strong leadership across the Group. It was also encouraging to see strong representation from South African risk leaders contributing to global discussions at RiskMinds this year. A sincere thank you to everyone I engaged with over the past few days for the insightful perspectives shared. I look forward to building on this momentum as the industry navigates a rapidly shifting regulatory and technological landscape.

What an inspiring week at RiskMinds International 2025 in London! It’s always a highlight to meet so many brilliant and inspiring leaders shaping the future of Risk & Compliance from around the globe.   I had the pleasure of moderating a fantastic panel on “Compliance in Times of Technological Change and Efficiency Transformation” – a great session all about how compliance is evolving with AI and GenAI, what truly works (and what doesn’t) in risk and compliance, and how cutting-edge technologies can help us become more tech-enabled, data-driven, risk-based, and people-focused.   A huge thank you to my amazing panelists Anna Issel, Satnam Lehal, Malena Ljungkvist and John McGinn. And to everyone I met throughout the event – for the great conversations, fresh ideas, and genuine energy. RiskMinds continues to be the place for exchanging bold ideas and connecting with inspiring peers across the global risk and compliance community.   Proud that Boston Consulting Group (BCG) is an Exclusive Strategic Partner of RiskMinds 2025 – helping leaders navigate complexity and transformation at the highest level.   #RiskMinds2025 #BCG #Leadership #RiskManagement #Compliance #AI #GenAI #Innovation #DigitalTransformation #Networking #Inspiration

📌 Delighted to have contributed to Women in Risk panel at RiskMinds today, and very pleased that such an important, softer topic is included into the conference agenda. Here is my summary, 👉 Invest in yourself with the same passion and determination that you would approach your risk discipline, be it Operational or Balance sheet management, or Cyber security. 👉 Develop a range of approaches and techniques that you can use in various situations, from leading and motivating the teams to managing conflict. 👉 Develop your teams, with personal, tailored approach to every employee - people are our greatest asset. Wonderful to spend time with fellow panelists, thank you Ras Gohil, Michelle Mott and Gitanjali Trevorrow-Seymour- The Possiblist™. And of course, another round of applause to Eleanor Halsey for a great event! #risk #oprisk #operationalrisk #riskmanagement #operationalriskmanagement

It’s always a pleasure to speak at "RiskMinds International" in London, the global stage for risk leaders. This year, I presented “Synthetic Insiders: The New AI Risk to Your Organization.” ------------------------ "Scammers don't have CROs to limit them on AI". ------------------------ Scammers are increasingly targeting companies that hire full-remote workers, using the recruitment process as their entry point. With Agentic AI and multimodal Agentic AI systems, they can now automate large parts of real jobs, scale their operations, and quietly infiltrate more organizations than ever before. During the session, we showed how a multimodal Agentic AI system looks and works, what each agent does, how deepfakes are generated, and how cybercriminals use corporate laptop farms to access company environments from anywhere in the world while appearing legitimate. We also did a live deepfake video demo on stage to show how realistic and accessible these techniques have become. Special thanks to Eleanor Halsey and to all the organizers and sponsors who make #RiskMinds such a world-class event.

Editorial Strategy Director at Boston Consulting Group (BCG)

This week, the global risk community came together once again under one roof at RiskMinds. This is Boston Consulting Group (BCG) third year as a Strategic Partner, and my first time attending in person, and what a week it’s been! Like everywhere else, everyone was talking about generative and agentic AI, where the opportunity is enormous, the shift inevitable, and the spending, by any normal measure, absurd. But at #RiskMinds2025, CROs were focused on something different: the risks, guardrails, and resilience models that will define whether using AI becomes a competitive advantage or a systemic vulnerability. That’s what made this week in London feel so important. The line-up was stellar — from BCG’s Dr. Anne Kleppe to Matteo Coppola, Dr. Katharina Hefter and Dr. Bernhard Gehra to the sharp geopolitical perspectives of Guy Verhofstadt, Lord Kim Darroch and Axel Weber. Across the sessions, five themes stood out most for me: ✅ Agentic AI is here but governance needs to catch-up. CROs are ready to deploy AI agents while the rulebooks still assume static models. Agentic systems are reshaping control environments faster than policy can adapt, and the EU AI Act doesn’t yet mention them. ✅ Your people and culture will define who wins As AI takes over a lot of grunt work, the risk function may lose the apprenticeship model that built today’s leaders. The next generation will need cross-disciplinary agility, not just risk literacy. ✅ Geopolitics has moved from backdrop to balance sheet. From tariffs and elections to trade fragmentation, macro uncertainty now hits P&Ls directly, and CRO’s are expected to act as ‘Chief Poltical and Uncertainty Officers’ ✅ Non-financial risk is now existential. Cyber, data, and third-party risks have moved centre stage. Quantum threats are no longer theoretical; the next major shock is likely to be operational, not financial. ✅ The CRO’s role is evolving from enforcer to strategic co-pilot. The CRO’s role continues to expand in scope, and in this new world, the CRO shouldn’t be the brake on the business, but rather the satnav and steerer of the ship. And finally listening to Sir Tim Peake’s astronaut view of risk: ‘resilience is engineered long before the crisis, through practice’ was just the cherry on top! 🚀 A warm thank you to Nicola van Heesch, Tracey Vongsanga Stephanie Bussan, Jennifer Grebe, Sophie Cooley and Ramon Bravo for inviting me and putting up such a fantastic event. #RiskMinds #BCG #RiskManagement #ResponsibleAI #BCGatRiskMinds #Geopolitics
