  • This organisation is fighting loneliness in big cities 💙 Loneliness is increasingly becoming a health concern around the world. What is now being referred to as an epidemic, loneliness can cause depression, anxiety and other chronic diseases. So, how can we fight it? Our Ambassador, Chanté Joseph founded an event series called Strangers in the City as a direct response to feeling isolated in a big city like London. Her solution? Show up alone. Or as Chanté puts it, don’t bring your boyfriend, best friend or mum. Every event is designed so strangers can meet, talk, and connect — no pressure, just genuine human moments. 🤝 In its first year, Strangers in the City sold out 22+ events and welcomed over 1,000 guests. 🌟 Chanté’s work reminds us that meaningful connection and community are at the heart of leadership. Small acts of empathy and courage can transform lives — and build communities that thrive. 🌍 How are you building and supporting your community today? #OneYoungWorld #Leadership #Connection #StrangersInTheCity #ChanteJoseph #ImpactDriven #YoungLeaders

  • Defending Truth in the Age of Disinformation 🛡️ Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and founder of Rappler, Maria Ressa, took the stage at the One Young World Summit to talk about one of the most pressing challenges we face in the digital age: disinformation. Maria warned that unchecked information erodes trust, polarises societies, and threatens fundamental freedoms. Drawing on her experience as a journalist under sustained attack, she issued a clear call to action for the world: confront disinformation with courage, uphold integrity, and take personal responsibility for safeguarding the facts. Maria urged the next generation to stand together to defend the truth and protect freedom of expression, highlighting the power of collective action in upholding democratic values. When young leaders unite to challenge false narratives and strengthen freedom of expression, they build resilient institutions and societies that are inclusive and democratic. • Why humanitarian aid is not enough 🚨 David Beasley, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate for his work with the World Food Programme and One Young World Counsellor, echoes his words of warning from the #OYW25 stage in this op-ed in TIME magazine: “My message to [young people] is: be careful and stay hopeful—don’t tear down the systems that are reaching the 90%, fix them. Integrate your modern tools and use technology, connectivity, and data to clearly evidence where proven frameworks can be made stronger.” Read David’s analysis on the link between food and global peace here: https://lnkd.in/eCNg4uz6 #FoodSecurity #PeaceBuilding #WorldFoodProgramme #YoungLeaders #OneYoungWorld

  • “Leadership is not something that can be bestowed upon you.” Her Excellency Mrs Toyin Ojora Saraki is the Founder and President of The Wellbeing Foundation Africa and our Counsellor. Mrs Saraki has spent over two decades championing women’s and children’s health, gender equality, and empowerment across sub-Saharan Africa. 🌍 💙 From advocating for safe motherhood to shaping global health policy, her leadership continues to inspire impact worldwide — most recently as a World Economic Forum Champion for Global Health and Honorary Patron of LifeLine International. “Who impressed you most?” An impossible question from one of our One Young World scholars. Because how do I choose? In alphabetical order, just a few 👇 🇯🇴 Ala'a Thalji Al Soudi: nailed her main stage speech. The image of her holding a 🍋 is one of the summit’s most powerful, symbolising Limonene’s work in sustainable water management. 🇺🇬 Anthony Munguriek: grew from nervous pitch trials to commanding the stage with confidence & clarity. His banana flour, an affordable alternative to wheat flour that reduces food loss, is just as impressive 🍌 🇮🇶 Bawar Mohammed: bursting with ideas. His platform for study-abroad opportunities won’t be the last we hear of him. 🇳🇬 Catherine Akor & 🇪🇬 Hussein Oraby: for not letting disabilities limit possibilities. Catherine’s story of overcoming bullying to found the Quiet Bloom Foundation moved me deeply 🌸 Hussein even earned a standing ovation on the main stage with SDS Egypt (Smart Disability Society) 👏 🇸🇳 Devys Convolbo AET: founded E-chips before I even started uni, turning potential food waste into healthy snacks 🤩 🇺🇬 Dimma Muhammed Mawejje: great energy! By the end of the summit he’d sold his entire Mawejje Creations stock: sustainable fashion made from banana fibre, organic cotton & textile waste 👕 Absolute natural on stage. 🇲🇿 Khiusha Uaila & Lucky Kassim: not only for their impressive work on sustainable drainage (Khiusha) & women’s rights (Lucky), but also for balancing business with motherhood 👩👧👦 🇳🇬 Michael Akinsete: shares his story of tackling food loss through Ecotutu’s cold storage solutions with such clarity my article practically writes itself. Also, his memory for LFC matches 15 years ago.. epic ⚽ 🇰🇪 Joseph Nguthiru: turns invasive weeds into bioplastics with HyaPak, tackling pollution and clogged rivers. Energetic & creative multi-talent 🧠 🇪🇬 Salem Ghanam: not just for his cutting-edge work in agri-robotics 🤖🌾 but also for being Hussein’s eyes on the delegation 💙 🇱🇧 Sara Ghanem: can’t fully grasp the complexity of her work in earthworm-based vermicomposting.. absolutely brilliant! 🇲🇦 Sokayna Bellam 🍉: massive progress since we met last year. With her quiet determination, Jodoor is steadily conquering Morocco (and, I hear, winning hearts in the NL agri-scene too) 💚 🇵🇸 Shirene Yaseen: her strength left everyone in awe. Stood on the big stage sharing Gaza's story, and didn’t break, even as everyone else wept for Palestine 💔🇵🇸 She continues revitalising her language platform Arabic Mate under unimaginably difficult circumstances 🕊️ Our French & Portuguese-speaking delegates: Daouda FAYE (🇸🇳), Aurélio Costa (🇲🇿), Fabrice TRA (🇨🇮), Dalila YARO (🇧🇫), Coumba Diakité (🇲🇱), Divine IRAMBONA (🇧🇮), Ghofrane AYARI (🇹🇳), Vasco Cossa (🇲🇿), many pitching in English for the first time. Massive respect 🙌 💼 Potential partner, investor or client? Don’t hesitate to reach out, I’m sure these entrepreneurs would love to connect! 🤝

  • “We got so much in common. We’re brothers, sisters and friends.” David Beasley — Former Governor of South Carolina, Former Executive Director, UN World Food Programme and returning One Young World Counsellor — reminded us that our strength comes from realising our commonalities and celebrating our differences. 🕊️ David led the UN’s World Food Programme from 2017–2023, earning a Nobel Peace Prize for their critical work in fighting hunger and building lasting peace. At #OYW25, David and Lord Michael Hastings demonstrated the vital link between food security and lasting peace. They explored how hunger fuels instability and how sustainable access to food builds dignity, resilience, and hope. How can we come together to create lasting peace?
