We recently spoke at Autodesk University AU 2025: The Design & Make Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. Our session explored the topic of ‘Found in Translation: Industry Alignment of Practices to Translate BIM to Carbon’. Missed our sessions and interested in watching it back? 💻🔗 https://brnw.ch/21wXHqk This session unpacks the challenges of decarbonising buildings amid a multitude of standards and diverse BIM and carbon accounting processes used for assessing embodied carbon. Led by the WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Autodesk and six practices from across the AEC industry conducted a case study revealing a 34% variation in embodied carbon assessments using the same Revit model. The discussion explores the root causes of these discrepancies, the complexities of converting BIM data into carbon insights, and offers guidelines to foster consistency, transparency, and actionable assessments that advance industry-wide decarbonisation. 🌟This talk has been recognised as a Top-Rated Class at AU 2025, out of over 500 learning sessions! Congratulations to everyone in the cohort. Speakers from Foster + Partners: Retha Swanepoel, Partner and Head of BIM & Design Systems Dana Far, BIM & Design Systems Coordinator Leandro Reati, BIM & Design Systems Coordinator Andrea Colombo, Structural BIM Coordinator Key contributions to this initiative by Chris Trott, Partner The presentation and the report are the result of a great collaboration between six practices from across the AEC industry, including: Arcadis, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), AECOM, Arup, and Ramboll. From metro to high-speed rail: the transformative power of transport design. 🚆 Transport has integrated itself into the fabric of our daily lives and transport hubs, such as metro stations, have become vital civic centres. “Transport projects, such as high-speed rail, involve complex engineering and architectural solutions that are positioned within a civic context. We engage a human-centric approach to transport design that ensures an intuitive, accessible, and integrated experience that synthesises the scale of passengers and speed of movement to the individual experience.” Angus Campbell, Senior Partner and Deputy Head of Studio at Foster + Partners. Foster + Partners’ transport designs, demonstrate our ability to meet the technical and infrastructural demands of transport projects, whilst also creating spaces that function as central and enjoyable civic hubs, that speak to the area’s culture, history, and environment. 🔗 Read the full article: https://brnw.ch/21wXEWe #Transport #Rail #Metro #Architecture #Design #Innovation #Sustainability #Engineering #Construction

Congratulations to Lord Foster who was awarded an honorary doctorate yesterday by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. "70 years ago I found the path that would allow me to study at university: it was a tortuous journey that lasted five years since I left school at sixteen and I was the first in my family, in fact in my neighborhood, to enter university […] Manchester and Yale universities changed and shaped my life from then on. As an architect and urban planner, I can relate what I have done since then – and continue to do now – to my years at those universities. This event is an opportunity to share those bonds, pay tribute and honor my debt to some of those extraordinary teachers.” Lord Foster, Founder and Executive Chairman, Foster + Partners Lord Foster was recognised for his ‘ability to imagine spaces that dignify life’ and his ‘profoundly humanist perspective on how we inhabit the world’, as the rector Amaya Mendikoetxea shared in her speech.

We’re delighted that plans for Thameside Wharf Silvertown have received further investment. Located on a pivotal site in London, Thameside West is a vibrant and innovative new mixed-use development that sits between three major water bodies – the Thames and Lea rivers and The Royal Victoria Docks. The Foster + Partners’ masterplan seeks to transform the underutilised brownfield site into a thriving urban waterfront neighbourhood that will complement the overall regeneration of the East End. 🎥 Norman Foster talks us through the highlights of the scheme in this video from 2019. We look forward to seeing this pivotal project develop and come to fruition. Arada London #Architecture #Design #Innovation #Sustainability #Engineering #Construction

As part of our ongoing commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, we recently welcomed Bobbi Pickard, CEO and founder of Trans in the City, for an inspiring In Conversation at our London campus. Exploring the topic of Trans Narratives in the Built Environment - as part of Trans Awareness Week - the talk examined how architectural design can foster inclusivity, highlighted recent regulatory changes affecting the Trans community, how different genders experience different spaces, and offered strategies for creating spaces that support gender-diverse individuals. Thank you Bobbi Pickard for joining us and sharing your personal journey. Trans in the City, Stonewall #TransAwarenessWeek #TDoR

Since opening the Foster + Partners | Civic Vision exhibition, we have had the pleasure of welcoming friends, clients, collaborators, AIA members, press and media, visitors from Sydney Open and the wider public, with guided tours of Gadigal Station, Parkline Place and the exhibition. Thank you to everyone who has visited so far. The first comprehensive exhibition of the practice’s work to be held in Australia provides an in-depth look at our global portfolio since it was founded in 1967 by Norman Foster. Situated in Parkline Place – the latest project by Foster + Partners in Australia – the exhibition focuses on its contribution to the urban environment and infrastructure and approaches the city as integral to a collective, sustainable future. The exhibition is organised around three themes: ‘Community + Culture,’ ‘Living + Working,’ and ‘Planning + Mobility’, and highlights the ways architecture can positively influence the future of our cities and societies. With five weeks remaining, we look forward to welcoming many more guests to explore Civic Vision. A special thank you to Investa for their support and for hosting the exhibition at Parkline Place. Foster + Partners | Civic Vision 📍 Level 2, Parkline Place, 252 Pitt Street, Sydney 📆 Daily until 21 December, 09:00–18:00 🎟️ Free entry #Architecture #Exhibition #Sydney #Australia

Techo International Airport, Phnom Penh, Cambodia. ✈️ Located 20 kilometres south of the city centre, Techo International Airport offers a new vision for Cambodia’s capital. The design embodies a strong sense of place, drawing inspiration from one of the oldest civilisations on earth, inspired by its vernacular forms, and responsive to the tropical climate. Throughout the terminal building, soffits are inspired by traditional basket weaving. Suspended under the building’s lightweight steel grid shell structure, a latticed soffit filters daylight into the vast terminal space throughout the day. 180 skylights are strategically placed around structural ‘trees,’ to bring natural light deep into the space while ensuring it is distributed evenly. A warm artificial lighting system is also integrated within the soffit’s layers and the structural ‘trees,’ creating a calm and comfortable atmosphere in the evening. “The modular lightweight shell structure and layered soffit filters daylight into the building – allowing people to experience the evolving qualities of the external environment throughout the day. Our design blends technological innovation with references to Cambodia’s built heritage. Interior materials are warm and welcoming to ensure the highest level of passenger comfort, while reinforcing the country’s unique identity.” Nikolai Malsch, Senior Partner at Foster + Partners. 🔗 Read the full article: https://brnw.ch/21wXyHv 📷: © Nigel Young / Foster + Partners #TechoInternationalAirport #Cambodia #PhnomPenh #Aviation #Architecture #Design #Innovation #Sustainability #Engineering #Construction
