From struggling to breathe as a child to breaking world records under the ocean, free-diver Şahika Ercümen has found her strength in the very place she once feared. Growing up with severe asthma, Şahika often felt limited by her condition. But discovering free-diving transformed her relationship with her body – and with life itself. Underwater, she found peace, power and health. Each dive became a reminder that recovery can come in the most unexpected forms. Şahika’s story is part of Bupa’s global Health Stories campaign, highlighting the power of open conversations about health. https://lnkd.in/e8nYW4QD #LetsTalkHealth

Ever felt awkward asking about your family’s health history? You’re not alone. Our research shows that many families find this hard to discuss. But when those conversations don’t happen, people are often unaware of their risks of developing genetic conditions. It means they could be missing the chance to take preventative steps to look after their future health. That’s why we’re encouraging people to start the conversation and build a clearer picture of their family health history. For advice on how, read more here: https://lnkd.in/eTxpteZT

For years, Lucy struggled with symptoms like stomach pain, fatigue and mood swings without knowing why. Earlier this year, she was diagnosed with severe IBS. One conversation with her GP changed everything. Lucy learned how IBS impacts both the brain and body. She finally understood the causes of her symptoms and how to manage them. Since then, she’s been rebuilding her routine – listening to her body, getting back into strength training and sharing her story on TikTok to connect with others and also to help reduce stigma. Talking openly has helped her find support, and she hopes it encourages others to do the same. #LetsTalkHealth

How can we make mental health part of everyday wellbeing? We often treat mental health as something to fix, not something to maintain. But caring for our minds should be as routine as caring for our bodies. That’s why mental health was a key focus at this year’s Bupa Symposium. In this edition of The Big Question, Mariola Pilas-Kołodziej, Gosia Bowling and Andrea Christie-David explore why mind and body are inseparable, how stigma still stops people seeking help, and what it takes to make mental health part of everyday care. #TheBigQuestion #LetsTalkHealth #BupaSymposium2025
