Introducing #SiteInAction: Every great project has a story. This series takes you behind the scenes to witness how Tata Consulting Engineers (#TCE) is shaping iconic projects across sectors. We begin with the Thane-Borivali Twin Tunnel Project in Maharashtra: a landmark development set to redefine connectivity between Thane and Borivali. TCE, in partnership with Hill International, is proud to lead the design review and project management of this 10.80 km twin-tube road tunnel, including its approaches and key structural elements. Passing beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, the tunnel is being excavated using advanced Tunnel Boring Machines to ensure safety, efficiency, and minimal environmental impact. Each tunnel will feature three lanes, including an emergency lane, with cross-passages every 300 metres and integrated safety systems such as ventilation, firefighting equipment, smoke detectors, and illuminated signboards. Once complete, this project will seamlessly link Ghodbunder Road to the Western Express Highway, reducing travel time from 60–90 minutes to just 15 minutes. It will ease congestion, cut emissions, and deliver a faster, cleaner commute for millions of Mumbaikars. Driving India’s Nuclear Future   Mr Amit Sharma, MD and CEO of Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE), led a forward-looking and high-impact panel at the #NIAS Workshop on India’s Nuclear Energy Mission 2047. The discussion focused on pathways to scale nuclear capacity to 100 GW while strengthening long-term energy security, improving climate performance and enabling sustainable national growth.   Mr Raghavan Ramadurai, Head of Power Business, and Mr Sachin Mishra, General Counsel and Company Secretary, TCE, presented perspectives on policy evolution, regulatory clarity, private-sector participation, talent development, and the innovation agenda required for the next phase of nuclear expansion.   TCE has more than five decades of experience across the whole nuclear engineering lifecycle and has contributed to nearly 85% of India’s civilian nuclear installed capacity through planning, design, engineering, technology and project support. The organisation has delivered Balance of Station solutions, mission-critical systems, digital plant modelling, and advanced simulation to enhance safety, reliability, and operational performance. TCE has also contributed to international nuclear programmes, including work related to ITER, demonstrating global exposure, research understanding, and engineering credibility.   Today, TCE is shaping new-age nuclear development through work on #SmallModularReactors (#SMR) and the #BharatSmallReactors (#BSR) initiative. These efforts are aimed at safe, modular, and scalable deployment in line with India’s #cleanenergy pathway and net-zero goals. India’s clean energy ambitions need smarter transmission systems. Traditional methods rely on fixed ratings that assume constant weather conditions. This often means transmission lines carry less power than they actually can, limiting renewable energy flow and grid efficiency.   At Tata Consulting Engineers (#TCE), we designed and implemented a system that changes this. Our Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) solution uses real-time data such as temperature, wind speed and solar radiation to calculate how much power a line can safely carry at any moment. It also predicts capacity for the next 168 hours, helping operators plan ahead with confidence.   Why does this matter? It means better use of existing lines, more wind and solar power on the grid, lower need for new infrastructure, improved reliability and planning, and stronger support for India’s sustainability goals. This solution combines advanced sensors with an AI-powered platform to deliver accurate, safe and scalable transmission upgrades without interrupting operations.   DLR is more than a technology.
