Air traffic congestion, carbon emissions and the need for more efficient operations are reshaping the future of global aviation. ✈️ Dubai Air Navigation Services, Emirates Airline and Thales have signed a Collaborative Research Agreement to advance flight efficiency through an AI-powered digital solution designed to mitigate holding patterns by up to 40% at Dubai’s arrival airport. By predicting airspace congestion and recommending proactive flight-plan adjustments, the solution aims to improve on-time performance, reduce fuel consumption and lower CO₂ emissions — supporting the UAE’s ambition to build a safer, more sustainable and more efficient aviation ecosystem. In a world where cyber-sovereignty has become a strategic priority for nations, the UAE Cyber Security Council and Thales are joining forces with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a Cyber Centre of Excellence in the UAE. This agreement covers the co-development and establishment of three key projects — a Space META-SOC, a Cyber Evaluation Lab, and a Crypto Lab dedicated to post-quantum and quantum key-distribution technologies — to help the UAE strengthen the protection of its space systems and critical infrastructure. By combining sovereign capacity-building, advanced research and technology transfer, this collaboration supports the UAE’s vision for technological sovereignty, promote local research and development, and contribute to building a sustainable Emirati expertise in space Cyber Security. At Dubai Airshow 2025, Thales and Tawazun Council for Defence Enablement have signed an agreement to enable local Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities in the field of optronic systems. Through the Tawazun Economic Programme, this collaboration will boost technical expertise, support workforce development, and foster self-sufficiency in critical technologies. Thales will provide the technology, tools, and certifications needed to empower EDGE’s Electro Optics Centre of Excellence (EOCE) to deliver maintenance locally. The collaboration also focuses on training and upskilling UAE Nationals employed at EDGE’s EOCE. This agreement supports the UAE’s broader vision of promoting sustainable industrial growth and increasing the local content contribution within the defence and technology sectors. Thales and the Tawazun Council for Defence Enablement have signed an agreement to support the development and implementation of an advanced Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) system that will enhance the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of the UAE’s aviation ecosystem. The advanced ATFM system will be operated and used by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), with the Global Air Navigation Services (GANS) as a national partner. Under the framework of an ATM Innovation Lab, the first of its kind in the UAE, Thales will co-develop new ATFM features. Thales’ proposed UAE-based lab in Abu Dhabi will be the fourth globally and the first in the Middle East, reaffirming the UAE’s growing role as a centre for advanced airspace management innovation.
