We’re excited to celebrate Veterans Day and Veterans and Families Month this November! Meet Michelle, who was inspired by generations of veterans to join the Army Reserves as a high school junior through the Split Option Program. This program allows high school juniors to enlist and complete basic training, and then attend Advanced Individual Training (AIT) after graduation. Michelle completed basic training during the summer between her junior and senior year, then went on to AIT after graduating. After finishing four years of reserve obligations and earning a marketing degree, Michelle began a new chapter. Her career path took her through international accounting, logistics, and HR before she transitioned to working here at UBS five years ago. Today, she works on the Workplace Wealth Solutions Team, applying leadership skills learned in the military to deliver exceptional service to clients. Michelle is passionate about helping other service members and veterans navigate the transition to civilian careers. She partners with the DOD SkillBridge program to guide service members through the transition process and show how military skills translate into corporate success. Every late September brings us the International Week of Deaf People, along with observances like World Deaf Day and the International Day of Sign Languages. While these dates may now be behind us, at UBS we don’t aim to celebrate dates – we utilize them to remind us to continuously impact on inclusion and vibrant culture of the Deaf community. And we do it all year long. Recently, our Ability employee network in Poland organized an inspiring meeting with Szymon Kasperczyk, a chess champion and Deaflympics silver medalist. Szymon’s journey, from joining the Polish national team and competing on the world stage to earning the Cross of Merit from the Polish President, reminds us that determination knows no barriers. His impressive story energizes us so much! We feel even more motivated to make inclusion real. And we're not stopping here. This November, we're honored to be celebrating Veterans Day and Veterans and Families Month. 💛 What does it take to go from maintaining military vehicles to supporting global financial systems? For Skylar, it started with a desire to do something bigger than herself. Skylar was able to serve at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA, as a wheeled mechanic and later as an executive assistant for the commanding officer of the 224th Military Intelligence Battalion. These roles taught her resilience, adaptability, and a passion for systems and technology. After earning a degree in Information Systems and Technology, she joined our Graduate Talent Program. Now, as a Tech Engineer, she applies skills like troubleshooting under pressure, teamwork, and integrity to ensure reliable systems for our clients. Skylar's also an active member of our Veterans Network, volunteering at career fairs to help service members begin the transition to their civilian careers.
