A study published in the Open Access journal Insects MDPI shows how citizen science can help reduce the spread of disease and protect public health. The study shows how local citizens with access to the correct platforms, such as the NASA's GLOBE Observer application, can report changes in their local environment. Integration with AI can help monitor these changes and flag up any potential health or climate threats. This was how the the larvae of mosquitos that cause malaria was discovered in Madagascar for the first time. This highlights the vital importance of citizen science in reporting the presence of changes in their local community and environments.
