In the DRC, our Kamoto Copper Company S.A. (KCC) is working to help improve education and skills opportunities for local communities – from supporting the construction and renovation of several schools for communities living close to KCC’s operations, to donating teaching materials, equipment and supplies, and supporting teacher development programmes. Earlier this month, a delegation from KCC and Glencore visited one of these schools - Tshamundenda School – where they met with local community leader Chief Kazembe and spent time engaging with students and teachers. The visit provided an opportunity for positive engagement with the community and brought to life the work being done to help improve local education and skills. Mark Davis, CEO of Glencore Copper Africa, said: “It was fantastic to visit Tshamundenda School and see the positive impact of KCC’s social contribution for local communities. Projects like this one are designed to help build capacity, share knowledge, and support the long-term social and economic wellbeing of our host communities, so that local people can benefit from Glencore’s operations in the DRC.”

Earlier this month, we hosted our 7th annual conference in the #DRC, bringing together our partners, stakeholders and community leaders to review progress, address challenges and outline a pathway towards a sustainable mining sector in the DRC. We were honoured to welcome Her Excellency Prime Minister Judith Seminwa Tuluka who participated in a fireside chat that highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in driving meaningful progress. Glencore’s President in the DRC Marie-Chantal Kaninda delivered a keynote address reaffirming our commitment to building a responsible and inclusive industry through our operations at Kamoto Copper Company S.A. and Mutanda Mining Sarl. 🗨️ “The future we aim to secure is that of a Democratic Republic of Congo that is both an active participant and a key beneficiary of global transformation.” Mark Davis, CEO Copper Africa, highlighted Glencore’s commitment to safe and sustainable production in alignment with international standards. 🗨️ “At Glencore, we recognise that the world is watching. Meeting international standards is not optional; it is fundamental. This means ensuring responsible sourcing, transparency, and unwavering adherence to safety and environmental norms.” Congratulations to our teams on a successful conference and to all of our partners and attendees that participated in fruitful and inspiring discussions.

In recent weeks, our Chief Operating Officer Xavier Wagner, accompanied by other senior leaders, visited our teams in the DRC, Canada, South Africa, and Colombia. Consistent engagement with operators on the ground helps strengthen connections and drive alignment within our organisation – understanding progress and challenges helps ensure real world operating context is at the forefront of our decision making so that work is appropriately prioritised and resourced. The interactions also provided the opportunity to recognise the high levels of ownership and pride driving performance across our operations. “Achieving great results always starts with leadership. Leadership drives culture and culture drives performance. What we choose to prioritise and deprioritise matters. How we speak and behave, what we tolerate, all sets the tone for creating the ideal conditions for our teams to perform and gain real meaning from their contribution to our successes” - Xavier Wagner Thank you to all colleagues who contributed to these engagements and continue to demonstrate our commitment to responsibly source the commodities that advance everyday life.
