  • This month, we’re circulating our annual Mental Health Safety Presentation and encouraging every team to bring this conversation to their monthly safety meetings. Together, we’re taking time to talk about: • Mental Health vs. Mental Illness • The impact of loss and grief • How to support someone who may be struggling with addiction • Suicide awareness — signs and behaviours to watch for • Available resources, including our Employee & Family Assistance Program These are not always easy conversations, but they are necessary ones, especially in the construction and industrial sectors where long hours, high pressure environments, remote work, and a “tough it out” mentality can make it harder for people to reach out. Our industry continues to see higher than average rates of mental health struggles, substance use challenges, and suicide. This makes proactive, honest, team led discussions not just valuable, but essential. When we talk openly about mental health, we reduce stigma, create understanding, and remind each other that it’s okay to ask for help. Every real story shared, every honest conversation, and every moment of openness helps make it easier for the next person to speak up.

Teamwork fuels everything we do at Strike, and our Fleet Team recently brought learning and connection together in the best way. They coordinated a team-building day around attending the Alberta Motor Transport Association’s (AMTA) Safety Summit in Sherwood Park, where they spent time learning, sharing knowledge, and strengthening their collective commitment to fleet safety. To top off the day, Rae Swanson and Scott Nunn surprised Geoff Adams and Tina Sadlowski with team sweaters, bringing some extra team pride and a lot of smiles. Investing in people is how we continue to grow stronger as a team. Great work, Fleet Team!

Our Safety Observation Card (SOC) program is one of our leading indicators and an important hazards communication tool. The program is about keeping safety top of mind, identifying hazards, recognizing safe behaviours, and looking out for one another every single day. To celebrate our team’s commitment, one of our sites recently wrapped up a project with an end-of-project BBQ and prize draw recognizing employee participation in Strike’s safety program. Congratulations to our prize winners, and thank you to every team member who helped make this project safe and successful. At Strike, safety is not just a priority. It is our core value: 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞.

  • Our team recently celebrated a milestone with one of our electrical apprentices, Liam Morris, who joined the industry after initially beginning his career in the food sector. With support from his mentor, Steven Hoffart, Liam has shown tremendous dedication and a passion for learning. Liam has graduated from Strike’s 'Green Hand Program', the green hard hat is visual signal to all on site that an individual is new to the industry. Studies have shown that workers with less than six months’ experience are three times more likely to be injured than those with a year or more. Graduation to a white hard hat happens only after the worker has demonstrated their safety competency for their job. Liam’s new hard hat is a symbol of growth, readiness, and increased responsibility. 💬 Steven shared, “I am happy to say that Liam met all the criteria to graduate from green to a white hard hat. He is an enthusiastic worker and does not tire of learning.” Moments like these matter. They represent hard work, mentorship, and opportunity, and they remind us why we invest in apprenticeships, training, and career development across our organization. Congratulations, Liam! We are proud to have you on the team and excited to see what your future holds. 👷♂️⚡
