The opening panel of European Safer Gambling Week 2025 set a clear tone for the week: honest and direct. - Jim Curry (Better Gaming Show) pressed the industry to stop circling around the topic and take responsibility seriously. - Dr Maris Catania. (LeoVegas) brought a research-led view on early-risk detection, youth exposure, and the messy realities of advertising and influencer marketing. - Maarten Haijer (European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA)) didn’t sugarcoat the fact that gambling carries risks and said the sector needs to communicate that far more openly. What stood out was that all three, coming from different parts of the industry, ended up pointing in the same direction: clearer standards, better collaboration, and less defensiveness about the challenges we’re dealing with. I’ve written a piece that sums up the conversation and the themes that will carry through the rest of the week. Posting it here for anyone following ESGW25. https://lnkd.in/ggW6z4e7 #ESGW25 #SaferGambling #ResponsibleGaming #PlayerProtection
Day 1 of Safer Gambling Week opened with a simple truth: an industry grows stronger when its conscience leads. The BGC set the pace for the week’s conversations, spotlighting how safer play is shaped not by slogans, but by real shifts in behaviour, clearer safeguards, and a culture willing to evolve. Today’s discussions reminded us that responsibility isn’t a sidebar to innovation, it’s the foundation that gives the industry its credibility, and its future.
