Volunteering and giving back is at the heart of everything we do, so when we get the chance to give back to other volunteer orgs to support and learn from each other, we absolutely jump at it!!! We recently had the opportunity to speak at the Volunteering WA Conference, and what an amazing two days it was! The conference was full of passionate people committed to strengthening the volunteering sector, and we left buzzing with fresh ideas, connections, and inspiration. We were proud to be able to get up on stage and share LYF’s approach to volunteer engagement and retention, and how we’re building a deliberate, inclusive, and community-centred culture for our incredible mentors. It was a privilege to contribute to conversations about the future of volunteering and to learn from so many thoughtful presenters along the way. Amazing two days at the Volunteering WA state conference. Learning about how we connect with new audiences and continue the pathway to enriching volunteer roles. The best part of the days was running into old friends from across the years in community services and reconnecting about the impacts we made to volunteering. Not only reminiscing but learning about how we closed the loop on many of the projects we’ve worked on over the years and the real impacts we made and continue to make. What a couple of days! We were stoked to be part of the 2025 Volunteering WA State Conference last week as the official Reception Sponsor, bringing together more than 200 incredible leaders, change-makers and community champions from across WA. Huge credit to Volunteering WA for putting on such an inspiring event packed with energy, action and impact. From thought-provoking keynotes to hands-on workshops and some cracking conversations throughout the two days, it was all about growing, connecting and driving real change in the volunteering space. At Hatchet, we love getting behind organisations that are making a genuine difference in the community. Last week at the Volunteering WA Conference, Dr Katherine Sugars shared her doctoral research on schism—factionalised conflict—in non-profit and volunteer‑led organisations. Inspired by a difficult lived experience, her work aims to equip future leaders (including the rebels) to navigate group conflict in ways that improve outcomes and, importantly, make the experience kinder for people. Murdoch Business School is proud to sponsor Volunteering WA and to support Dr Katherine Sugars in bringing this research into practice.
