We recently brought industry leaders together for an insightful look at the future of the Sunshine Coast, hearing directly from Julian Simmonds, CEO of Economic Development Queensland (EDQ), as he outlined EDQ’s priorities including their work to unlock greenfield land, boost housing supply, create local jobs, and drive economic growth in one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regions. Julian was joined on the panel by Peter Saba from Walker Corporation, who shared insights on delivering projects within the Maroochydore City Centre PDA, and Robin Mace from Sunshine Coast Airport, who offered perspectives from the Sunshine Coast Airport PDA. Recently our Emerging Leaders cohort came together for a forum exploring finance, leadership, and the realities of today’s market.   The cohort heard from Luke Perkins from Westpac and Daniel Erez and Mitchell Fenton from Pindara Partners, who provided valuable insight into capital flows, lending conditions, and how the current finance environment is shaping opportunities across the industry. Yesterday, more than 25 high-profile industry leaders, utility providers, and Government representatives came together for a solutions-focused discussion on one of Queensland’s biggest challenges: the red tape and regulatory settings that continue to slow the delivery of new homes. Across the half-day forum, speakers highlighted the need for simpler, smarter, and more consistent regulation to improve project viability and accelerate delivery. Themes included streamlining approvals, improving cross-agency alignment, and modernising processes to support faster project starts. A strong message also emerged on productivity: had Queensland maintained earlier productivity levels, the state would be significantly better placed to meet today’s demand, enough to meaningfully reduce pressure on labour and lift housing delivery. What an incredible turnout for our Moreton Bay Delivering Growth event, held late last month.
