  • Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR). CW: This post discusses murder and systemic violence This evening, we gather at Ozone Reserve (East Perth, Boorloo) to honour the trans and gender-diverse lives lost to violence and discrimination. From 6:15pm, we will stand together for justice, liberation, and dignity through community speeches, poems, and performances. Event Details: - This event is Auslan interpreted. - Please bring a picnic rug or chair. - For more information and to register, please visit https://lnkd.in/gRZnmtnD Between October 2024 and September 2025, 281 trans and gender-diverse lives were reported lost to transphobic violence worldwide. We know this number is underreported. Many of those we remember today were Black and Brown trans women and trans sex workers. This year’s reports also show a disturbing rise in violence targeting trans activists and community leaders. This is systemic violence rooted in intersecting systems of oppression, racism, misogyny, and xenophobia. For the full report: https://lnkd.in/gbNTkbJx We remember those we’ve lost. We recommit to the fight for our right to exist without fear. Their light remains in our hearts and in our ongoing struggle for justice. If you need some support during this time, please reach out to: - QLife on1800 184 527 or via webchat online at qlife.org.au - 13YARN on 13 92 76 - Lifeline on 13 11 14 We acknowledge that this event takes place on Whadjuk Noongar land and pay our respects to Elders past and present. This is and always will be Aboriginal land. #TDOR #TransDayOfRemembrance #TransRightsAreHumanRights

  • We're asking for support to keep our binder program going! A binder is a tight top that helps to flatten the appearance of the chest. Wearing a binder can help some trans and gender diverse people feel more comfortable with their body, and can have a huge positive impact on mental health. Unfortunately, the cost is a major barrier, leaving many to use unsafe alternatives or go without a binder entirely. Our Binder Program provides free, safe binders to those experiencing financial hardship. Survey participants of the program revealed the significant impact: - 88% reported a boost in self-confidence. - 84% experienced improved mental health. - 53% were able to leave the house more often. - 38% attended school more often. Your support can go twice as far this week. Thanks to Rainbow Giving Australia, the first $1,750 our organisation raises for GiveOUT Day by this Thursday, October 16th, will be matched dollar-for-dollar All money raised will go directly to purchasing and shipping binders. A gift of $60 covers the full cost of providing a safe, quality binder to one person in need. Help us secure our goal by donating today: https://lnkd.in/gD8kjY4N

  • WA's new gender recognition laws are officially in effect TODAY! This is a huge moment for trans and gender diverse people across Western Australia. We've made history by removing cruel and outdated legal barriers, finally ending the dehumanising and intrusive Gender Reassignment Board. This means a new, more respectful process to update gender markers on birth certificates, allowing many to finally have identification that accurately reflects their gender - and crucially, this includes legal recognition for non-binary people for the first time! This significant reform is the result of many years of concerted and collaborative advocacy here in WA. We are so proud of our community, Rainbow Futures WA, and everyone who fought tirelessly for this change. While we celebrate this massive victory, we know the laws aren't perfect. Transfolk WA will keep fighting for our community’s needs and the right to self-determine our identity. We are updating Transfolk WA's resources to reflect these new changes. In the meantime, you can access the government's guide to the new processes via our Linktree at https://lnkd.in/gCjHdwRi Folk will also be able to submit a Change of Name application at the same time assuming all conditions for both applications have been met. They will be processed together. Application forms can also be found directly online at: - www.justice.wa.gov.au/bdm - https://lnkd.in/g39CU3tu
