💚 This week our Bunbury staff completed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid training, and what an incredibly powerful two days it has been.
A heartfelt thank you to Laurence Riley from Wilyil Yirra Cultural Solutions for guiding our team with cultural knowledge, lived experience, and stories that created a safe, respectful and deeply meaningful learning space. We are truly grateful.
This training supported our staff to:
• Recognise early and emerging signs of mental health concerns affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults
• Understand cultural considerations, local supports, and the barriers many community members face when seeking help
• Learn how to respond safely and confidently during a mental health crisis
• Build culturally informed skills to start supportive mental health conversations
• Strengthen their own self-care as Mental Health First Aiders
Across the two days, the course explored topics including depression, anxiety, substance use, suicidal thoughts, psychosis, social and emotional wellbeing and more. Every discussion was grounded in community perspectives, cultural knowledge and the lived experiences shared in the room.
We are incredibly proud of our Bunbury team for showing up with openness, courage and commitment to strengthening safer, more culturally informed support for our community.
🌿 Thank you again, Laurence, for your guidance and generosity.
