Platypus update: Our Riana waterways continue to support a growing platypus community 🦆🌿 🍓 Last year we shared (https://lnkd.in/gGmfb8FN) the exciting discovery that platypuses had made their home in the dams at our Perfection Berries farm in Riana, North West Tasmania. We’re now pleased to provide an update following the latest conservation research undertaken by Ulverstone Veterinary Clinic / UVC Wild. Their new Report on Platypus Research at Perfection Berries (12 November 2025) has confirmed what we were already delighted about, our managed water bodies continue to support a healthy and active platypus population. What the latest fieldwork found: - Platypuses were detected at all three dam and creek sites on the property. Four adult platypuses (three males, one female) were captured across two fieldwork periods in 2024 and 2025. - All were in good health, of average size and weight, and have now been microchipped for ongoing monitoring. - Their presence upstream and downstream shows the water systems on our farm provide reliable feeding, movement and burrowing habitat. The research highlights that well-managed water bodies, with stable water levels, permanent water sources, and natural vegetation, can play a meaningful role in supporting platypus populations. This aligns closely with our sustainability commitments and our approach to managing the dams and surrounding habitat at Riana. In addition, 3.5 million households across Australia have experienced food insecurity in the past 12 months. That's according to the Foodbank Hunger Report 2025 which showed that food insecurity is no longer just a low-income issue: it’s a national one. The countdown is on for the Cherry Ball and the Annual Cherry Auction, to be held on 29 November. 🍒 🍒 🍒 Recently, our own Roy Napoli from Perfection Fresh caught up with Little Wings Ltd Ambassador Ava Canon and Josh Reynolds to help launch this year’s event, hosted in support of Little Wings, the Sydney Markets Foundation and Freshmark. Now in its 44th year, the Cherry Auction is a long-standing Sydney Markets tradition that brings together growers, wholesalers, retailers, and the wider community to raise vital funds for charity. This year’s proceeds will once again support Little Wings, a not-for-profit organisation providing free, professional flight and ground transport services for seriously ill children and their families across rural and regional NSW, ACT and QLD. Every flight Little Wings makes helps take children from the bush to the city, connecting them with life-saving medical care that isn’t available locally. Their work eases the emotional, financial and physical burden on families during incredibly difficult times. At Perfection Fresh, our commitment to community partnerships extends beyond business. A full crop cycle, over 100,000 tests, and zero virus detected. That’s the culmination of our team’s dedication and hard work. 🍅🍅🍅 Today, after more than a year, South Australia has been declared free of tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV), paving the way for growers like Perfection Fresh to return to full trade across the Australian eastern seaboard. The State Government has issued an Area Freedom Certificate, giving interstate markets confidence that South Australia is now free of ToBRFV following extensive testing across the state’s tomato-growing regions. This means our Two Wells site can once again supply South Australian tomatoes to more customers and consumers interstate, allowing more Australians to enjoy the premium-quality fruit and vegetables we grow with care and expertise. With more than 100,000 tests completed at Two Wells alone and zero detections, we are confident our facility is the most tested and cleanest production site in the country. Achieving this result over a full crop cycle is a remarkable milestone that reflects the dedication and hard work of our team. Our world-class biosecurity and control measures, alongside rigorous testing, have ensured this outcome. (Importantly, ToBRFV has never had any impact on human health.) Last week, Perfection Fresh concluded another exciting ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA 2025 in Hong Kong, reconnecting with valued customers and exploring new opportunities across the Asian market. Standout moments included the Berry Australia activation, where chefs showcased creative canapés using our strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries, and the Chef’s Networking event at the Australian Pavilion, featuring our Broccolini, Cauli-Blossom, Petite Tomatoes and Qukes. For almost 50 years, Perfection Fresh has been delivering premium fresh produce, combining expertise, variety, and innovation to meet the needs of consumers in Australia and overseas. It was fantastic to strengthen existing partnerships and build new connections with international business partners. Last weekend, we were honoured to once again support the 39th Annual Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia NSW Gala Ball as a Silver Sponsor.
