Gunggandji Aerospace is proud to announce, under our partnership with Toll Aviation and the South Australian Government, that we will be staffing a new operations centre to be based at Adelaide Airport!     This operations centre will help provide comprehensive State Police, Ambulance and Rescue Aviation Services (SPARAS) to South Australia.     As Australia’s first and only Aboriginal-owned aerospace consultancy, Gunggandji Aerospace will prioritise Aboriginal employment as we fill new positions at our Adelaide operations centre. This partnership will create and sustain meaningful aviation career pathways for Aboriginal Australians.    Our Managing Director, Daniel Joinbee, stated, “Today marks a significant milestone in the journey of Gunggandji Aerospace, as we proudly announce our new aviation employment initiative alongside Toll Aviation and the South Australian Government. The 2025 Raising Horizons journey came to a close this week with a powerful final visit to RAAF Base Townsville. Students spent the day exploring the base, meeting Air Force loadmasters, watching aircraft land on the tarmac, and learning about the many roles that keep operations running safely. They visited the RAAF Museum, discovered the science and skill behind aviation firefighting with Airservices, and shared lunch at the mess alongside serving Defence personnel. To finish the day, each student received a personalised reference letter, co-signed by the CEOs of our partner organisations and Gunggandji Aerospace CEO, Daniel Joinbee. It was a moment of pride and recognition, celebrating not only what the students have achieved but what lies ahead. Throughout the day, the students’ curiosity and insight reminded us of why Raising Horizons exists. One young woman from Yarrabah shared how she had never imagined herself in these kinds of roles, but after hearing from the loadmasters and seeing what they do, she could now picture herself in that world and the places she could travel. That sense of belief is the heart of this program. It is what happens when learning becomes real, when role models are visible, and when industry stands alongside First Nations leadership to open doors. This year, Raising Horizons has created real pathways. One of our students is now being connected with an industry mentor as a direct outcome of the program. These moments of connection are how change begins. As 2025 draws to a close, we acknowledge the incredible industry leaders who have supported Raising Horizons, including Aviation Australia, Airservices Australia, RAAF Base Townsville, Townsville Helicopters, Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section), Queensland State Emergency Service, Boeing, and the many others who made this year possible. The impact is clear. The relationships built and the belief sparked will continue long after the funding ends. We remain committed to working with partners and Government to ensure that Raising Horizons continues. Inside the Tower: Real-Time Aviation, Real-World Impact ✈️📡 Raising Horizons students were recently welcomed onto RAAF Base Townsville for a powerful, behind-the-scenes introduction to Defence aviation. From the top of the Air Traffic Control tower, students observed live flight operations and heard directly from the professionals who manage them. The experience brought aviation careers into sharp focus, demonstrating how communication, teamwork and precision shape every role in the sector. A leadership session with the Australian Army expanded students’ understanding of Defence aviation pathways, reinforcing the message that careers in logistics, engineering, air traffic and command are within reach. Students explored a CH-47 Chinook helicopter and heard from Aaron Johan of Boeing, a proud Indigenous leader from Far North Queensland. Aaron shared his own journey into aviation, showing how local beginnings can lead to extraordinary careers. His story grounded the day’s experiences in real possibility, inspiring students to see themselves in the industry’s future. Through hands-on exposure and trusted partnerships, Raising Horizons is helping First Nations youth see themselves as part of that future. Aviation Australia was also on base, showcasing aviation training pathways and highlighting their new collaboration with Boeing Defence Australia to establish the Townsville Aviation Training Academy, opening in January 2026. The Academy will train aircraft maintenance engineers for the Army’s new Apache helicopters, creating new career pathways for young people in the region.
