Leadership Isn't a Title-It's an Action, Sharing my Journey. Leading with Love not Fear: Love-Based Leadership Focused with Human Centered Everything.

Reflection leads to gratitude, confidence, and belief in self... "Through introspection, you'll discover that you've already achieved what seemed challenging, affirming your capability to overcome hurdles once more. Past successes foreshadow future triumphs; it's a testament to your resilience and untapped potential." If we fail to reflect we will struggle to identify our strengths, and our negative self-talk can take over, leading us to feel more like an imposter limiting our true potential and impact both personally and professionally. In leadership and life, we can help others develop the tools they need to properly reflect as both individuals and as a team. Our forward-looking view in business, with the "what have you done for me lately?" mindset in this fast-paced digital world, makes it difficult for individual contributors and teams to have the time and space to reflect. Which causes us to: 1. Miss opportunities to improve processes, 2. Struggle with effective recognition of team contributions 3. React rather than proactively solve 4. Fail to understand individual performance and alignment of work to the strengths of the individual and team From a more personal reflection perspective, if we don't allow ourselves the time or surround ourselves with a social board of directors who help us, we won't reflect on our own lives, made up of our trials & and tribulations but also our accomplishments and successes, we will: 1. Blame and find excuses 2. Become stressed and eventually burnout 3. Fail to uncover our strengths, passion, and purpose This essentially makes us less impactful teammates, making it harder for teams to collaborate, innovate, and problem-solve. If you are wondering, "Can I do it?" Take the time to reflect because you might just see can CAN, HAVE, and WILL again! #growth #reflection #personaldevelopment #leadership #potential

Have you ever taken a moment to step back from the hustle and bustle of your professional life and truly ponder over your career satisfaction? 🤔 In our fast-paced world, it's easy to get caught up in the daily grind. But, by pausing and reflecting on your career, you can gain a deeper understanding of your journey, goals, and ultimately, your happiness. Here's why a career reflection is so crucial: 1. Self-Discovery: Taking time to reflect helps you identify your strengths, values, and passions. This self-awareness is the first step to aligning your career with your true self. 2. Goal Clarity: When you pause and think about where you're headed, you can set clear, achievable career goals. Clarity leads to purpose. 3. Empowerment: Recognizing your achievements and areas for improvement empowers you to make informed decisions about your future. 4. Adaptability: In a rapidly changing world, reflecting on your career allows you to adapt and stay relevant in your field. How can you pause and reflect? Schedule a career check-in: Make it a regular part of your routine, perhaps quarterly or annually. Seek feedback: Ask peers and mentors for their insights on your progress and areas of improvement. Set aside dedicated time: Create a quiet, contemplative space to think deeply about your journey. Keep a journal: Document your thoughts, achievements, and aspirations. Seek guidance: Consider consulting a career coach or mentor for valuable insights. Remember, career satisfaction is a journey, not a destination. By taking the time to pause and reflect, you can continuously enhance your career trajectory and lead a more fulfilling professional life. #CareerReflection #CareerSatisfaction #ProfessionalGrowth #SelfAwareness #WorkLifeBalance #Goals #Inspiration

Coaching is fundamentally different from a medical approach.    Trustworthy coaches don’t try to fix you.   Instead, they shine a light on what matters most to you, help you to see your strengths more clearly and then leverage them in a way that propels you into action.   The job of a coach is to help you find the power you need to embrace changes that refine how you navigate your professional spaces.    We all have aspects of ourselves that we wish to improve, and while a complete overhaul isn’t realistic, targeted adjustments can significantly enhance how effectively we move through our worlds. The beauty of this process is acknowledging that while some challenges may not disappear overnight, they can certainly evolve into something manageable.   This evolution is marked not by eradicating challenges but by transforming your relationship with them.   Here are concrete steps to apply this philosophy: 1️⃣ Self-Awareness: Begin with self-reflection. Acknowledge your strengths and the areas you wish to develop. This awareness is your foundation. 2️⃣ Set Specific Goals: Identify specific, actionable goals that align with your desired growth. These should be compelling enough to scare you (a little) and then broken down into small, manageable steps that lead to big changes over time. 3️⃣ Seek Feedback and Support: Engage with peers, mentors, or a coach who can provide constructive feedback and support. External perspectives can offer invaluable insights into your progress and areas for further growth. 4️⃣ Celebrate Progress: Recognize and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Each step forward is a testament to your commitment to self-improvement.   The journey of self-improvement is not linear.    Embrace it with patience and self-compassion. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and your potential to navigate and shape your path, leverage your strengths and continue evolving. You will lose momentum; you will face failure. That’s OK – you can fall down but then you must get back up and try again.   Never give up!

"The degree to which a person can grow is directly proportional to the amount of truth they can accept about themself without running away." At the core of personal development is the ability to look inward and recognize our own shortcomings and areas for improvement. This introspection requires a level of honesty that many find a little uncomfortable. It's easier to blame external circumstances or others for our problems than to acknowledge our own role in them. However, growth begins with taking responsibility for our actions, decisions, and their outcomes. The truth about our limitations One of the hardest truths to accept is that we have limitations. These can be in the form of time, resources, skills, or emotional capacity. Recognizing these limitations doesn't mean resigning ourselves to them; rather, it's about understanding our current starting point. It's from this foundation of truth that we can start to push our boundaries and expand our capabilities. Learning from failure Failure is often seen as a negative outcome, something to be avoided at all costs. However, a truthful assessment of our failures can be one of the most powerful tools for growth. Each failure provides insights into what doesn't work, guiding us towards more effective strategies and approaches. The ability to accept and learn from failure without running away or making excuses is a hallmark of resilience and growth mindset. The power of feedback Feedback from others can be a valuable source of truth about ourselves that we might be blind to. While it can be difficult to hear criticism or suggestions for improvement, embracing this feedback is crucial for personal and professional development. It's important to seek out and listen to honest feedback, even if it challenges our self-perception or comfort. Actionable steps for embracing truth - Practice self-reflection: Regularly take time to reflect on your actions, decisions, and their outcomes. Be honest with yourself about what you could have done better. - Seek feedback: Actively ask for feedback from peers, mentors, and supervisors. Approach this feedback with an open mind and a willingness to learn. - Set growth-oriented goals: Create goals that challenge your current limitations and push you to grow. Use the truths you've discovered about yourself to inform these goals. - Embrace vulnerability: Allow yourself to be vulnerable. Acknowledging your fears and insecurities can be a powerful step towards overcoming them. - Learn from failure: View each failure as a learning opportunity. Analyze what went wrong and how you can improve in the future. Conclusion The journey of growth is an ongoing process of confronting and embracing the truth about ourselves. By accepting the full truth of who we are, we unlock our potential to evolve beyond our current state. #motivation #productivity #selfgrowth

Do you know what one of your most formidable superpowers is? What can unlock the incredible potential inside you? Reflection is one of the most important tools in the self-development tool chest. It also happens to be one of the most underutilized. It is customary during the transitional phase into a new year to spend some time reflecting back on the previous year and planning goals for the next. This is not a bad practice, it is actually essential, but it only becomes effective when it becomes a consistent practice. When consistently applied, reflection helps us to understand our passions, motivations, fears, desires, strengths, and weaknesses. It helps us recognize our mistakes and flawed thinking. It provides us an opportunity to tap into our creativity and uncover innovative approaches to solve our goals. In short, it empowers us to grow and improve. How can you tap into this practice and start unlocking your superpower? Here are some tips: ➡️ Start with 5 minutes. Grab a notebook (or your phone!) and simply freewrite your thoughts. No editing, no judgment, just stream-of-consciousness exploration. ➡️ Seek your sanctuary. Find a space that whispers calm. It could be a sun-drenched park bench, a quiet corner of your favorite coffee shop, or even a corner of your own bedroom bathed in morning light. ➡️ Expand your toolbox. Journaling isn't the only path to self-discovery. Try sketching your emotions, mind mapping your goals, or taking a solo walk and letting your thoughts flow. ➡️ Make it a daily ritual. Treat reflection like your morning coffee; a non-negotiable habit that fuels your day. This year, create your #LeadershipLifestyle and unlock the incredible potential within you. Make consistent reflection your superpower, not just a seasonal ritual. Leadership isn’t about being perfect. It's about being aware enough to recognize your imperfections and work on them. This awareness is crucial. It directly impacts how a leader interacts with their team and how the team functions as a whole. A self-aware leader must acknowledge their areas of growth. By doing so, they create a more supportive, stable, and inclusive environment. This fosters open communication, trust, and a sense of belonging, which are essential for a high-performing team. A leader’s self-awareness is the foundation upon which strong, resilient teams are built. Improving self-awareness doesn't have to be a daunting task. -----A Few Ideas That Continue to Work for Me----- Self-Reflection Journaling 📓✍️ Why It Helps: Journaling can help you process your emotions and identify patterns in your behavior. Twice this week I found myself discussing reflection. The first time was Monday when I visited a college classroom to discuss personal brand throughout college, how to build a story worth telling, and how to tell it for the job market. The second time was today during our BGBC Partners, LLP refresher discussion on 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (talking paradigms and how that framework of beliefs can impact your behavior). In my career and academic journey, the power of reflective thinking has been a transformational revelation. As I reflect (Ha! See what I did there!?) I distinctly recall times when leaders in my early career subtly practiced this art, but not often. It was during my graduate studies and later while creating curricula for adult learners that its true impact hit home. The most transformative master's programs incorporate reflection into every core objective, a practice that not only enhances learning but also fosters profound personal growth. However, there's a striking gap in our educational approach, especially evident in my experience as a high school teacher. We've leaned heavily into critical thinking, spurred on by the ever-increasing demands of standardization. But what about reflective thinking? This introspective process, which is crucial for understanding and growing from our experiences, often takes a backseat. This oversight resonates particularly with Gen Z. We often tell them to "know themselves," yet we overlook that they haven't been systematically taught how to. They're pushing back against this "know yourself" rhetoric, not out of defiance, but because they haven't been equipped with the tools of reflective thinking to truly understand themselves. I advocate for a renewed focus on reflective thinking in both educational and professional settings. It’s about more than analyzing external information; it's about delving into the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of our own experiences and thoughts. This deeper self-awareness is crucial for both personal and professional development. Even in my podcast and speaking engagements I always start with "truly know yourself, believe in your value, and then share it with the world." It all starts with you. You have to be the expert on that topic! Let’s start championing the power of reflective thinking more vocally. It's time to integrate it into our classrooms, boardrooms, and personal development plans. After all, understanding ourselves is the first step in a journey that leads to true learning and growth. #ReflectiveThinking #Education #ProfessionalDevelopment #GenZ #SelfAwareness

In my post on Tuesday, I wrote about an Arabic saying that I recall often, even in the context of my business interventions. Let's add to those thoughts on self-reflection with another one of my favorite sayings on this topic. This comes from early Islamic teachings, and says - "حَاسِبُواْ أَنفُسَكُمْ قَبْلَ أَنْتُ حَاسَبُواْ" – "Take account of yourselves before you are taken to account." This phrase emphasizes the importance of self-assessment and accountability. Historically, this saying is attributed to Umar ibn Al-Khattab, the second Caliph of Islam. A great leader, he encouraged people to evaluate their actions and intentions regularly, fostering a culture of introspection and moral integrity. By reflecting on our daily actions, we can better understand our strengths and areas for improvement, aligning our lives more closely with our values and goals. In the context of companies, this is also very relevant. In the business world, think about what it would mean to be "taken to account". It happens when we realize we haven't done what's needed to protect our businesses and our people and it means we've got our back against the wall. No one wants to be in that situation. That's why self-reflection isn't just a personal exercise; it's a powerful tool for professional and institutional development. It helps us become more mindful leaders, empathetic colleagues, and resilient individuals. #SelfReflection #SelfRealization #GrowthMindset #Leadership #markets

As we get to the end of a year we tend to spend a little more time reflecting, which is great. It’s a powerful tool, but one that often gets muddied with judgment, so taking a conscious approach to it can help unlock the full power it has to offer. And because it is so powerful, it’s important to continue to make space for reflection throughout the year, not just when the year is coming to an end 🗓 One of the most important things we can reflect on is personal growth. I say this because inner work is like any change: Difficult to see when we're the ones experiencing it. A great way to consciously reflect on this change is to pick a specific moment to do an audit around (specificity is our best friend in inner work because it lets us see the truth more clearly). I like to choose a challenging moment I’ve experienced recently and then ask myself the below questions. This helps to highlight how we're showing up differently because of the internal shifts we've made: 🔹How would I have handled what I’m going through now one, five, or 10 years ago (pick the timeframe based on the period of growth you’re looking to create more awareness around)? 🔹What specifically is allowing me to show up differently (what change have I created that’s allowing or driving what I’m noticing)? 🔹How does it feel to be where I am now compared to where I was? This last question is an important one. Our ego can often have us in a “What’s next?” mindset, especially at the beginning of the year. Pausing and celebrating the change we’ve created not only increases our awareness, it welcomes more of it into our lives.    And this reflection tool isn’t just great for creating awareness around current growth, it’s also great for identifying areas of opportunity for future growth. If you notice during this audit there are ways you want to show up more supportively in the future, use that to drive where you dive in next with your inner work 💫 _________ Hi, I’m Ashley.
