  • The best leaders focus on more than just their professional success. To create a balanced life, you need a framework and a plan. Here are six areas to reflect on to create more balance ⚖ Balance is a word we often hear, yet implementing it in our lives is another story. Without a solid plan and framework, we're just spinning our wheels. It's not always about improving the weakest areas, but rather focusing on where strategic changes can mitigate risks and seize opportunities. 1. Personal Growth Top executives don't just excel in the boardroom; they also invest in their well-being and hobbies. Staying active and mentally sharp is crucial, whether it's through sports, reading, or any activity that fosters growth. 2. Family Life It's easy for work to consume us, but family — both immediate and extended — forms our core support system. Balancing career ambitions with family time is essential for stress relief and happiness. 3. Friendships Having close friends outside of work and family circles is rare for many leaders, yet these relationships are invaluable. Friends offer unbiased support and can challenge us in ways that propel personal growth. 4. Career Planning Thinking long-term about your career trajectory and setting ambitious goals are key to fulfillment. This means constantly adding new skills and perspectives to your executive toolkit. 5. Financial Health While earning is important, true financial stability comes from wise management, saving, and investing. It's about ensuring future security and opportunities, not just increasing your income. 6. Contributing to Society Eventually, financial success gives way to seeking a broader impact by making a difference in the community and leaving a lasting legacy. It's about leveraging your success to benefit others and future generations. Living a balanced life enriches both personal satisfaction and professional success. The most effective leaders I know are those who find creative ways to nurture various aspects of their lives simultaneously. For me, traveling with my family and serving on the Board of the Ronald McDonald House Charities has been incredibly rewarding, ticking several boxes at once. I stopped buying into the traditional concept of "work-life balance". For the longest time, it implied a neat, tidy equilibrium and separation between my professional and personal life. But I have learned these worlds for me, are more fluid by intention and by choice. I leverage experiences to enhance my full life, whether they be professional experiences and connections to people that enhance my personal life or vice versa. We can hustle, working tirelessly and mindlessly, and think "one day, I'll prioritize my time for what really matters.” I've made the decision to begin living how I want to NOW — not for a distant someday. This shift isn't just for myself; it's a part of our family's story. I want to be a representation, in developing and raising 3 strong daughters: of how embracing the beauty of our professional and personal worlds can create a life that's truly fulfilling. To create synergy between work and personal life: 1. Set clear boundaries for how you spend your time. 2. Prioritize high-impact tasks at work. 3. Use energy (+time) management techniques. 4. Delegate and outsource tasks. 5. Set realistic (SMART) goals. 6. Embrace flexibility if possible. 7. Prioritize self-care and wellness. 8. Focus on QUALITY over quantity, always. 9. Learn to say no when necessary. 10. Take time to acknowledge what is working for you, and what isn’t - and tweak it accordingly. How do you create synergy and balance?

Is this you? You are juggling a lot. While you never seem to drop any major ball, that does not stop you from constantly worrying that you are going to mess up. You have a vague sense that you are not quite on track... You have sacrificed your personal life for your professional life, but making a change in pursuit of balance feels irresponsible or out of character. YOU COULD... Keep on keepin’ on despite your anxiety and vague sense of discontent... Let life unfold and focus on being grateful for the fleeting moments you do feel successful and peaceful... OR YOU COULD... Keep your gratitude practice AND decide where you want to focus your energy and achieve your goals... Gain more leverage over the variables you can control... Accept that you cannot prioritize every area of your life at once, and let yourself off the hook for certain categories while you are in particular phases of your life... Here's how to start. If you haven't done the oldie-but-goodie wheel of life tool on your own or with a coach, I highly recommend it. Simply give yourself a rating from 1 (low) to 10 (high) based on how fulfilled you feel in this moment, and then ask yourself a few reflection questions: What do you notice about balance across the categories? Are there categories that you have consistently prioritized or deprioritized throughout your life? How do you feel about that? Do you want to change any of these categories? Remember, you are doing great just where you are (ahem, perfectionists), and incremental change is the most efficient goal for sustainable transformation. If you do this activity and want a free coaching session to discuss it, I'm here for that. See a link to the tool and my calendar in the comments. If you’ve said “I’m so tired” in the last 7 days, this is for YOU. I used to tell myself this all the time. I was constantly exhausted and thought that I was just ‘built that way’. I was fully convinced that energetic people were genetically gifted and I just didn’t have that IT factor. There were moments where I’d feel energized, but they’d fade as quickly as they came. When I started speaking, I learned an invaluable lesson I still bring with me to every event I get to be a part of: People meet your energy before they meet you. I realized that my energy needed to change BEFORE my relationships did. It needed to change before my business did. It needed to change before my life did. I started to focus on generating energy daily instead of waiting for the ‘moments of energy’ we’re all familiar with. Let me give a few examples: We all have moments of energy that feel effortless: ➤ New Years Day ➤ Birthday ➤ Summer ➤ Vacation ➤ New Relationship These moments bring us closer to our best and make us feel awesome. The only problem? They only come around every once in a while. And every other moment in between feels like a waiting room. We wait for the big moments to feel energized and fully experience life. We need to flip the script. Instead of waiting for the big moments, let’s celebrate the small ones. Instead of hoping for exciting times, let’s create excitement daily. Instead of wishing for a more dynamic life, become a more dynamic person. When you make the decision to step into a more energized version of you every single day, you get more out of relationships, work and life. So lean into generating more energy. How? 3 Pillars to focus on: ➤ PHYSICAL ENERGY: Move your body, drink water, eat healthy and take care of your body. ➤ PSYCHOLOGICAL ENERGY: Focus on the things you’re excited about and schedule excitement regularly. ➤ ENVIRONMENTAL ENERGY: Surround yourself with people that increase your energy. When you consistently show up with great energy, you unlock the door to the best version of yourself. Remember, people meet your energy before they meet you. So show up in a way people will remember. #keynotespeaker #confidence #mindset
