    So this is me right now - pulling a little rubber band in various directions. 🌀 After my shoulder surgery - everything was reset. For a while, I could barely get a full night's sleep or dress myself due to pain. A few months in, I'm more independent and pain is almost gone. 💪🌙 Some things are still out of reach: Sleeping on my right side, washing my back etc. But things get better everyday - thanks to that little rubber band. Therapy is a wonderful analogy for personal and professional growth. These are seemingly stupid, simple, easy actions but they make such a MASSIVE difference in outcome. 💡🌱 When I started I was barely able to lift my arm above my head, and now my doctor says I will be back playing tennis this year. Simple, easy actions - one step at a time - with the right guidance building tiny muscles and healing along the way. 🎾🚶♀️ For me, therapy is nothing short of transformative. In life, that is how transformations happen - not with a bang but with a whisper. Micro-commitments made and re-made every day, every week and every month. 🌟✨ Yet, we make it so hard for ourselves. Don't we? We know we should work out every week, but we don't. We know we should eat better, we don't. We know we should learn that new skill, we don't. 😔 Why? Simply put - inertia. It takes 6 weeks to build a new habit. Most give up before that. What we feel is boring or hard is simply our minds trying to keep doing what we've always done. ⏳🧠 But to build new habits and skills, I think the core thing is to reframe. So what if we flipped the script? 🔄 It's not the work that is boring - binging on Netflix can be considered boring. Skipping dessert isn't that hard - giving up on health goals should feel harder. 📺🍨 And it's fine to seek help from friends and professionals. External accountability is great! Having a clear outcome - getting back on a tennis court with my son is great for motivation. 👥🎯 And for the majority of us - the resources we need are likely quite accessible. So how about we tell this story: the things I need to do to build my ideal life - are actually a series of tiny, simple actions. 🏋️♀️🌟 So if you can boil down your transformational goal down into small, simple 15 minute segments a day - you can embark on any audacious goal. 🗓️⏱️

    🌎 Change can feel too enormous to attempt or too murky to navigate. But when the voice inside you wants something different, why wouldn't you listen? Your personal guide is pointing the way to greater fulfillment and alignment with your core self. What does it look like to start moving in that direction? Financial responsibilities, family obligations, health issues, and societal expectations - not to mention a chorus of inner critics declaring your undeservingness - can make the idea of change feel nearly impossible. Here are some ways forward: 1. Focus on the Feeling, Not the Outcome: Understand the essence of what you're yearning for, not the specific circumstances. Stay open to many paths - yet unknown - that might move you closer to that vision. 2. Work Within the Space You Have: Seek opportunities for exploration within your current reality. A few conversations, some manageable research, more mindful moments in your day to self-reflect. Plant lots of seeds and see what grows. 3. Embrace the Whisper: Your inner voice might be a whisper, but it's potent and significant. Create quiet spaces in your life to hear it more clearly—meditate, exercise / take walks, spend time in nature, or practice mindfulness. 4. Connect and Share: Find a friend, mentor or coach to share this journey with you. It helps immeasurably to externalize your thinking with someone who's genuinely interested in your growth. Change doesn't have to be monumental to be meaningful. Small shifts in perspective or slight adjustments in daily habits can lead to profound transformations.     Day 8 – 5 Steps toward Embracing and Overcoming Your Fears Today we are going to address an often-overlooked aspect of job searching and career transition: facing personal fears. The problem is that when we avoid acknowledging our fears or taking time to address them, they will show up in an interview, the day an application must be turned in, or the first day at the new job. Fear is inevitable during a period of change. That is why, the sooner you are able to recognize and turn your fears into fuel, the sooner you will be able to start achieving your goals. Step 1: Acknowledge Your Fears - It's completely natural to feel fear during times of change. Whether it's the fear of rejection, the unknown, or even the fear of success, these feelings are valid and more common than you might think. Remember, acknowledging your fears is not a sign of weakness, but a brave first step towards conquering them. Take Action! Sometime today, set a timer for 5-10 minutes and write down every doubt or fear that you have in your head about your career transition. Step 2: Reframe Your Perspective - Instead of viewing your fears as roadblocks, try to see them as opportunities for growth. Each application, interview, or networking event is a chance to learn something new, regardless of the outcome. Every successful person has faced rejection, disappointment or failure at some point in their journey. How can you use those fears to fuel your actions and build your momentum each day? Step 3: Set Realistic Goals - Breaking down your career transition into smaller, achievable goals will make the process less daunting. Your accomplishments, no matter how small, will start to build your confidence and momentum. One tool that is extremely effective at helping with this step is a Career Development Plan. (More on that later this week.) Step 4: Embrace the Discomfort Zone - The greatest personal and professional growth usually happens outside our comfort zones. Embracing challenges and new experiences is integral to your career journey. If you don't step out of your comfort zone, it’s unlikely that you will ever experience the immeasurable success you could be designing for yourself. Step 5: Connect with Others - You are not alone in this journey. Reach out to your network, mentors, or a coach. Sometimes, just talking about your fears can diminish their power. Plus, you might be surprised at how many people have faced similar challenges and can offer valuable advice and support. Unless you are in mortal danger, fear is caused by the thoughts you assign to your current circumstances based on your previous experiences and doubts. When you learn to change your thoughts and take action, you can change your life. Your past does not have to define your future.     I'm starting to doubt this age-old advice: "Don't compare yourself to others." As a marketer, I've learned that perfection is often the enemy of progress. In business and life, waiting for everything to be flawless before taking action can hold us back from achieving our goals. More often than not, we find ourselves comparing our start to someone else's peak. What if we reframed this advice and used comparison as our personal "competitive research," a source of motivation and intel, not defeat? Recently, a simple trip to the playground with my daughter reminded me of this mindset shift. Last year, she wanted nothing more than to swing across the monkey bars. Determined, she would swing, slip, fall... get up again. Ask for support up, swing, slip, fall. Again and again.  With a mixture of excitement and self-doubt, she turned to me and said, eyes on her older friends swinging effortlessly across as only kids can, "Why can't I do that? I want to do this, but I'm not as good as them." At that moment, I saw a reflection of myself and others in her words.  How often do we compare ourselves to those who seem to have it all figured out, forgetting that they, too, were once beginners? The truth is, we all start somewhere. And more often than not, it's messy and imperfect, but it's where growth begins. So, I encouraged my daughter to keep trying, reminding her that progress and practice are more important than perfection. From there, she tried again on each playground visit and every day at school. With each attempt, she grew stronger and more confident. And you know what? A year later, she makes it across those monkey bars. The same principle applies to our professional journeys. Whether launching a new marketing campaign, starting a business, or learning a new skill, remember that you don't have to have it all figured out from the start. Use comparison to motivate you, push you to test and retest, and inspire you, not discourage you. Embrace the journey, embrace the imperfections, and trust in your ability to reach your own peak.     We often put a lot of pressure on ourselves to have everything figured out before we get started. I know I did this in many stages in my life. I wanted to be in the best financial position possible before I was ready to get married. I wanted to read all the parenting books before I was ready to be a dad. I wanted to make sure I had a perfect business plan before I launched my business. I wanted to have every piece of necessary software, before I started working with clients. The list goes on and on. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized a few things. First, there is no “perfect” time to start. The longer you wait, the more intimidating it may become. Second, I just need to take the first step and make adjustments as well as improvements as I go. Don't get stuck in analysis paralysis. It's better to take that first step towards your goals than to wait for the perfect moment. Start now, even if it's a small step, and you'll be closer to where you want to be. Remember to track your progress and make changes as needed to stay on track. As the saying goes, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” By defining the problem, identifying a few next steps, and being open to regular reassessment, you’re setting yourself up for continuous learning and improvement. It’s okay not to have all the answers from the start.
