I received an email last week that caused me to look at where I am now, and where I was when I first started my midlife male transformation. In other words, take a good, hard, long look in the mirror. While I now sometimes share experiences that involve higher-end products or more exclusive events, my core message remains unchanged: Transformation is inclusive and accessible to anyone, anywhere. Maximizing middle age is fundamentally rooted in the belief that progress is a process. Each day's disciplined actions, though they may seem trivial, simple or even boring at the moment, are vital steps toward evolution and growth, which are essential to happiness. Every experience I share, every product I mention, comes with a backstory of trials, errors and lessons learned. My aim is not to prescribe a lifestyle, but to offer tools and tales and share experiences from which you can draw inspiration and find your own path forward. ◆ I started with cold showers. Now I have a cold plunge. ◆ I started walking around the park. Now I climb 29029. ◆ I started doing push-ups, squats and sit-ups. Now I have a home gym. ◆ I started writing while I was trapped in an unfulfilling job. Now I get to do this full-time. The truth is that all of these things have taken years to become part of my life and even longer to earn enough to become part of my lifestyle. I see progress as a process, not a price. So here are 9 process steps to help you make progress. 1. Set Small, Achievable Goals Begin with clear, manageable objectives. If your goal is to get healthier, start by incorporating a 10-minute walk into your daily routine or a-30 minute workout 3x per week. Small goals are less daunting and build the momentum necessary for larger successes. You may just end up climbing the equivalent of Mount Everest 3 years later. 2. Maintain a Consistent Routine The power of habit cannot be overstated. By establishing a routine, you're less likely to need to rely on constant decision-making or willpower. Schedule your new tasks like any other important activity, and stick to it. You may just end up writing 250 consecutive newsletters. 3. Reflect Regularly Take time each week to reflect on what you've accomplished and where you've faced challenges. This reflection will not only provide you with the opportunity to celebrate small victories, but also allow you to adjust your strategies as needed. You may just end up with enough material to write your first book. 4. Seek Incremental Improvement Instead of aiming for a drastic transformation overnight, focus on making small improvements regularly. This could be learning something new each day, slightly increasing your exercise intensity or dedicating a few more minutes to mental health practices. You may just end up in the best shape of your life. --- Want the other 5 tips? Subscribe to The Midlife Male newsletter to read the most recent issue for yourself: https://lnkd.in/gbNgWykQ

Building a brand habit. Can one daily habit change your life (or brand)? I don’t know, but I’m about to find out. I’ve started writing 500 words every day. By the end of the year, I’ll have 182,500 words. A book was my original goal, but I can already see benefits far beyond a book. Carving out time in my schedule, making myself write, and being consistent is sparking something in me. A bias toward action has been rekindled and it’s trickling down into my work for clients and my overall approach to how I live my life. Consistent action is the only way to change, improve, or evolve. Without it, we get stuck in a cycle of doing the same thing and expecting different results. Magnify this 10x when you’re talking about building a brand. A brand isn’t just a logo, website, and some ads. A brand is built through the consistent daily actions you and your team take. You can’t build a brand overnight, it’s the compounding of daily inputs that shapes perception. That’s branding. I won’t lie, it’s hard at first. Anything worth doing usually is, but as you put in the reps it does get easier as the habit starts to form. The secret, focus on the inputs more than the outputs. Fall in love with the process. The results will come if you obsess about forming the habit. Here’s how it works… - Decide what you want to be known for (clear brand strategy) - Define a daily routine that will carry you in that direction - Put your time in every day until a habit forms That’s how you form a brand habit. Look around at recognizable entrepreneurs and companies. Almost all of them were formed through brand habits. Whether it was writing, videos, customer service, or something else, all of them have brand habits that are done consistently every single day. I guess not all habits are bad. #branding #entrepreneurship #contentmarketing

"Change what you do to change where you go" On the journey of growth, it's easy to find yourself stuck in a loop, where days blend into each other, and progress seems like a distant dream. Routine offers comfort, but it's often the graveyard of growth. To foster development, scrutinize your daily habits. What tasks consume disproportionate amounts of time with little return? Identifying and eliminating these inefficiencies can redirect energy to more fruitful endeavors. Embrace Discomfort Growth lies on the other side of comfort. Incorporating new challenges into your routine forces adaptation, learning, and ultimately, improvement. Start with small changes to build resilience and expand your capacity for more significant shifts. Goal Setting and Tracking Define Clear, Achievable Goals Ambiguous aspirations breed inaction. Define clear, achievable goals to provide direction. Break these down into actionable steps to transform daunting tasks into manageable actions. Track Progress What gets measured gets managed. Regularly tracking progress towards your goals not only maintains focus but also provides motivation through visible improvements, no matter how small. Mindset Shift- Cultivate a Growth Mindset Adopt a mindset that views challenges as opportunities to learn rather than insurmountable obstacles. This perspective encourages persistence and resilience, essential qualities for long-term success. Learn from Failure Reframe failure as feedback. Each setback offers valuable insights into what doesn't work, guiding adjustments and innovations in approach. Leveraging Your Environment Create a Conducive Environment Your environment significantly influences behavior. Tailor your surroundings to support your goals. If productivity is the aim, design a distraction-free workspace. If learning, surround yourself with relevant resources and influences. Seek Constructive Feedback Engage with peers, mentors, or coaches who can provide constructive feedback. External perspectives can uncover blind spots and offer insights that propel you forward. Continuous Learning and Adaptation Embrace Lifelong Learning The pursuit of growth is a perpetual journey. Embrace learning as a continuous process. Stay curious, seek new knowledge, and be open to changing your approach based on new insights. Stay Flexible Rigidity is the enemy of growth. The willingness to pivot in response to feedback or changing circumstances is crucial. Flexibility allows for the exploration of new paths and opportunities. In conclusion, changing where you're going starts with a critical assessment and adjustment of what you're doing. To keep growing, I make sure to constantly challenge my routines and habits. I’ve learned that, when it comes to routines, one size does not fit all and that understanding and leveraging our biological rhythms is key. Ever heard someone say they're an early bird or a night owl? We all have an internal clock that dictates our optimal periods of wakefulness and rest Recognizing and adapting to this natural rhythm can dramatically enhance productivity and overall well-being. Our internal clock divides our day into zones: the peak, the trough, and the recovery. The peak, often occurring in the morning or evening, is when we experience heightened cognition. Tasks requiring intense focus and critical thinking are best scheduled here. The trough, typically about eight hours after waking, represents a dip in alertness. This period is ideal for less demanding activities such as socializing, exercising, or even taking a nap. Contrary to common practice, powering through cognitively demanding tasks during the trough is counterproductive. Instead, use this time to recharge, preparing for a final burst of productivity in the late afternoon or evening. This strategy is particularly crucial when facing tight deadlines or heavy workloads. In such times, extending your active chronotype zone – waking up earlier or staying up later – can be a game-changer. An hour of work in your peak period can be as productive as four hours in the trough. To capitalize on this efficiency, it's non-negotiable to utilize every hour of your peak zone for critical tasks. The key is to align your work with your biological rhythm. Start by identifying your internal clock – are you an early bird, a night owl, or somewhere in between? Then, structure your day around this natural pattern. Reserve cognitively demanding tasks for your peak period and fill the trough with less intensive activities. Incorporating this understanding of optimal biology into your daily routine isn't just about working smarter; it's about fostering a sustainable work-life balance. By aligning with our natural rhythms, we not only boost productivity but also enhance our overall health and well-being. Give it a try! #productivity #routines #habitbuilding #personalgrowth #success

What are you reading? In July I read several books and want to highlight DARREN HARDY's "The Compound Effect". This book will grab you right from the start. You'll quickly begin to see where consistency of daily activities are always working - sometimes for you, sometimes against you - but always working. The Compound Effect is always in play, the key is to leverage this to your advantage, understand your true wants, your values, your vision and then execute the compounding strategy to improve any area of your life, whether is financial, physical, spiritual - the choice is yours. Intentional patience and persistence are vital. I want to also take this opportunity to share the personal benefits that I've seen from the compound effect, especially now that I have a better understanding of it. As many of you know, I kicked off my intentional reading 'habit' a few years ago and started posting book monthly book recommendations last year. While there are many benefits to reading on a regular basis the real value comes when you take what you read and apply it to your life. The most concrete example that I can give you is with my personal health and fitness. Much of it started with James Clear's "Atomic Habits" and then Robin Sharma's "5am Club". "The Compound Effect" added more depth to some behaviors that I had already put into action. The actions centered around building habits and then the daily/morning routine. My morning routine has evolved over the past few years but the consistency is there and it's paying off. It looks like this: Exercise 40-45 mins Read 20 mins (in Sauna) Wim Hof Breathing (this is new) Meditation 10-15 mins Get ready for work 😀 We all know life throws us curve balls, but if we can build consistency and discipline to continuously improve we can still take advantage of the compound effect. What are you compounding? For reference, the pics are now vs 3 yrs ago.

Like many people, I often feel ₒᵥₑᵣwₕₑₗₘₑd and ₛcaₜₜₑᵣₑd some days, constantly bouncing between work tasks, errands, family needs, and more. The demands of daily life can seem endless. However, I’ve learned firsthand the incredible power of building consistent routines. Implementing simple daily and weekly routines has been a game-changer for reducing my stress, boosting my productivity, and helping me feel more in control. Waking up at the same time (I am an 🌅 riser), following an exercise routine, setting clear work hours, and scheduling family time as well as time for my personal development are examples of small habits that have kept my life anchored even through difficult times. 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬: ✔️ Helps conserve mental energy ✔️ Fulfills psychological needs for order and self-discipline ✔️ Improves health ✔️ Enhances work performance 👷 𝑅𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑐𝑡 𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑐𝑎𝑓𝑓𝑜𝑙𝑑𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑣𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑠 𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑢𝑐𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑠𝑢𝑝𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑎𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑒𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑔𝑜𝑎𝑙𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑤𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑏𝑒𝑖𝑛𝑔.👷 If you feel like your life lacks routine, I encourage you to pick 1-2 areas to start establishing regular habits. Start small, and build up. Maybe set a consistent bedtime and morning wake-up time. Or schedule a 30 minute walk 3 days a week. Meal prep on Sundays. Or read for 15 minutes before bed. Trust me, the effort pays off. Routines quickly turn new behaviors into automatic habits. And when the fundamentals like sleep, nutrition and exercise become ingrained, you’ll gain mental clarity, reduced anxiety, and lasting positive improvements. Don’t underestimate the power of implementing simple yet consistent routines. They provide the bedrock for living your best life. #productivity #bestlife #leadershipstrategy https://lnkd.in/gRV2EhQj

I’ve found certain habits to be important in my journey. Here’s a peek into my day-to-day habits of how I align my spirit, mind, and actions to lead with purpose and heart. - Each morning, I start with prayer and listening to worship songs. This spiritual grounding gives me peace and clarity for the day ahead. - I consciously delay checking my devices. This small act of discipline helps me ensure my first interactions are with my goals, not my gadgets. - Every day, I dedicate time to learn something new. Whether it’s a chapter from a book or a podcast episode, this habit keeps me informed and inspired. - I make it a point to outline my key tasks for the day. Writing them down not only provides clarity but also a sense of accountability. - I value bonding with my students and team. Whether it’s a quick check-in or a collaborative session, these interactions are the cornerstone of our collective success. - At the end of the day, I take time to reflect on the wins and lessons learned. It’s an opportunity to grow and plan for an even better tomorrow. These habits have shaped not just my leadership style, but also my personal growth. They are simple yet powerful practices that any aspiring leader can adopt to create a meaningful impact. What are your daily habits? #leadership #dailyhabits #mindfulleadership #personaldevelopment

Over the years I've discovered that my most productive and energetic hours are in the morning. By 5:00 am, my mind is already buzzing with ideas and plans for the day. I cherish this time, dedicating the golden hours between 6 and 7:30 am to work on projects that are deeply meaningful to me, beyond my full-time job. This practice has become a cornerstone of my daily routine, especially as I've navigated significant life changes, including moving to different countries and starting anew multiple times. My mornings are not just about work; they are about cultivating a sense of normalcy and motivation. I start my day by visiting my favorite coffee shop, where the familiar sounds and sights, the aromatic coffee, and the warmth of shared smiles fuel my day. This ritual is my catalyst, setting the tone for a productive day ahead. I strategically schedule my day to capitalize on my fluctuating energy levels. Mornings are reserved for tasks requiring sharp, critical thinking, while afternoons are for less mentally demanding tasks. This rhythm allows me to maintain high productivity and ensure that I am investing my best hours into my most significant work. This is the power of morning routines and thoughtful daily planning to make every day fulfilling and productive. Habits can make you or break you. Let them transform you to great heights through this framework. Ever wonder why some habits stick while others don’t? It’s not about willpower. It’s about understanding the science. We are creatures of habit. Our daily routines shape our lives, for better or worse. I have taught the science of the mind, habits, and peak performance at Babson College, AFS Intercultural Programs, United Nations, University of Southern California, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, etc. Let me tell you the truth behind habits, and success. 1. Cue, Routine, Reward Every habit starts with a cue, followed by a routine, and ends with a reward. For Ex: if stress (cue) makes you reach for junk food (routine), replace it with a healthier routine like a quick walk and reward yourself with a small treat. 2. Start Small Big changes overwhelm. Small, consistent actions lead to lasting habits. Want to exercise more? Start with just 5 minutes a day. Remember, the journey of 1000 miles begins with a 1 step. 3. Make It Easy Remove barriers that make habits hard to stick to. Lay out your workout clothes the night before. Prep your meals ahead of time. Simplify the steps needed to accomplish your goal. 4. Reward Yourself Celebrate small wins. Finished a workout? Treat yourself to something enjoyable. Positive reinforcement creates a mental association that makes you want to repeat the behavior. 5. Be Patient Habits take time. They say it takes 21 days, but real change can take months. Stay committed. Consistency is key. 6. Accountability Share your goals with someone you trust. Accountability partners can provide support and encouragement. 7. Track Your Progress Keep a journal or use an app to track your progress. Seeing how far you’ve come can be incredibly motivating. It helps you understand what works and what doesn’t. 8. Visualize Your Success Spend a few minutes each day visualizing your success. Visualization creates a powerful mental image that can drive your actions. 9. Adjust and Adapt Life happens. Be flexible. If something isn’t working, adjust your approach. Adapt your habits to fit your current lifestyle. Without losing sight of your ultimate goal. Activity for you now: A) Take a moment. Think of one habit you want to build or break. B) Write it down. Break it into small steps. C) Remove obstacles. Celebrate progress. Stay accountable. D) Track your journey. Visualize success. E) Adjust as needed. Reflect and refine. The secret to success lies in your daily habits. Act now. Not tomorrow. Start today. #Habits #Success #growth #focus #talent #PersonalGrowth #SelfImprovement #SuccessMindset #DailyHabits #TakeAction #Commitment #Transformation #ScienceOfHabits #ActNow
