Lesson for the Month: 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬. My all time favourite author, Tony Robbins, once said, "Anytime you sincerely want to make a change, the first thing you must do is raise your standards." You can't keep using the same standards you've applied in the past that have given you poor results. Our outcomes are a reflection of what we believe we deserve. You set the standards for your own life. When you look in the mirror, do you like what you see? One morning, I made a powerful decision: it was time to set new standards and redefine my life's trajectory. 💪 I raised the bar in the gym, pushing myself to new physical heights. 👗 I changed my wardrobe, reflecting a higher standard of self-presentation. 🤝 I carefully chose my team members, ensuring they aligned with my elevated vision. 🌟 I set a higher caliber for the people I keep close, surrounding myself with positivity and ambition. 🌱 I expanded my standards for personal growth, embracing new possibilities. Raising standards involves a conscious effort. Here are steps you can take to raise your standards: 1) 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Reflect on your current standards. Evaluate your values to understand your baseline. 2) 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: Pinpoint areas of your life where you want to raise your standards, such as health, relationships, career, or personal development. 3) 𝐒𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬: Establish clear goals for each area you identified. Define what success looks like and create a roadmap to reach those goals. 4) 𝐔𝐩𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: Surround yourself with positive influences and environments that support your goals. 5) 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: Commit to learning and personal development. Stay informed about industry trends and new perspectives. 6) 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐳𝐨𝐧𝐞: Step outside your comfort zone regularly. Growth often comes from facing and overcoming new obstacles. 7) 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬: Evaluate your relationships and prioritize those that contribute positively to your life. 8) 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Hold yourself accountable. Each setback offers valuable insights into what doesn't work, guiding adjustments and innovations in approach. Leveraging Your Environment Create a Conducive Environment Your environment significantly influences behavior. Tailor your surroundings to support your goals. If productivity is the aim, design a distraction-free workspace. If learning, surround yourself with relevant resources and influences. Seek Constructive Feedback Engage with peers, mentors, or coaches who can provide constructive feedback. External perspectives can uncover blind spots and offer insights that propel you forward. Continuous learning can feel like a detour from your career path, but can actually be a shortcut to where you're already going. It's understandable to feel that focusing on learning a new skill will impede on your current potential at work. While no educational program can teach you experience the way that your job can, non-work sources can introduce you to better ways of doing things. Finding time to learn becomes exceedingly difficult the more obligations you have outside of your career. For example, learning should never come before taking care of your family. So, how can you level up and not sacrifice your family or career focus? 1. Be Intentional with Learning - The busier you are the more you have to focus on prioritizing what you learn. You should never pursue advanced degrees, boot camps, or certifications to simply boost your resume. It has to be intentional for growth. 2. Hack Your Schedule - Wake up before your family and pair your first cup of coffee with reading, watching videos, or doing formal coursework. An extra quiet hour every morning adds up. 3. Do Cardio - I find that 30 minutes of cardio every day leads to greater productivity and endurance. You may find that 8 hours of work turns into 4 hours. What's more, you don't burn out as quickly. 4. Forfeit TV - "TV" in this context is just a proxy for whatever it is that takes up your time but isn't really contributing to a personal or professional goal. You have to eliminate TV and all other distractions until your goal is reached. The added benefit to following these steps is how surprisingly well it translates to your work.
