These guidelines should be followed: * IIoT is a way to collect data * This data should be harmonized in a single structure * Context can be added to the data, making it information * This information can be used to change machines, systems, and processes, improving the overall effectiveness of a system Considering all of this, here are a few ways IIoT can impact sustainability: Enhance Energy Efficiency - This is likely the use case that comes to mind when it comes to IoT. It’s one of the first things implemented in homes (turning off/ on lights or that Nest Thermostat), but in manufacturing, IIoT can be used to optimize energy usage across an entire operation. This data can be used to drive predictive maintenance increasing machine uptime, extend operational life, and, in many cases, at greater operational efficiency Resources Optimization - Minimize waste by enhancing production processes through the information gained via the IIoT system . This leads to reductions in material waste and improvements in inventory accuracy, reducing costs associated with excess inventory and scrapped materials all while making the business more sustainable through the efficiency gains. Sustainable Supply Chains - IIoT enables companies to create more efficient and transparent supply chains, reducing the carbon footprint associated with logistics.
