#DPI : Digital Public Infrastructure can drive a sustainable increase in #revenue collection and build trust in government. -India's adoption of digital public infrastructure has helped reduce the country's income tax return processing time. Trust in government and government effectiveness have a reciprocal relationship. Trust is enhanced when political institutions are strong and governments implement policies and initiatives that are aligned with the public interest and improve people’s daily lives. And governments can be effective only when their citizens trust them enough to comply with laws, thereby creating the space for reforms. Of course, trust in government needs more than just robust digital platforms. But the building of India’s digital platform infrastructure has laid some of the foundations for increasing trust by creating an inclusive platform for citizens to transact digitally and empowering users to have more control over their data. Good digital infrastructure can create trust between any two counterpart actors by introducing tamperproof components for identity, #payments, and #security , which allows citizens and businesses to be certain of the #identity of their counterpart and of the legitimacy of the transaction. This allows the reduction in explicit and implicit costs to citizens when they interact with their government, and for businesses in their transactions with individuals, other businesses, and the government. -Kamya Chandra, Tanushka Vaid, and Pramod Varma's article in International Monetary Fund 's September 2024 F&D (Finance & Development) Edition
Rebuilding Public Trust Through IT Reform
Explore top LinkedIn content from expert professionals.
Summary
Rebuilding public trust through IT reform means using modern technology—like digital platforms, artificial intelligence, and blockchain—to make government processes more transparent, responsive, and secure. These digital tools help citizens see how decisions are made, track government actions, and feel confident that their voices matter and their data is protected.
- Increase transparency: Use digital dashboards and public ledgers so people can track government actions and spending in real time.
- Automate communication: Set up AI-powered systems to respond quickly to citizen questions and provide updates on service requests.
- Strengthen accountability: Build secure digital identities and tamperproof records to prevent errors, fraud, and corruption in public services.

When your country's trust in its leaders has collapsed, how do you rebuild it? You don’t hold another conference. You build tools that let citizens watch power in action—live. In Chile, public trust in democratic institutions has cratered. Trust is “very, very damaged,” as one developer put it. People just don’t believe their voices matter anymore. Then came Del Dicho al Hecho – from said to done. A digital platform built to track every official proposal: from introduction in Congress to real-world implementation. Education, healthcare, immigration: you watch promises go from line to law in real time. One in ten Chileans used it last year. That's what digital accountability looks like. Until the tech got old. Enter Tech To The Rescue: we matched Ciudadanía Inteligente with pro bono backend expertise from Alio IT Solutions. We moved from spreadsheets and guesswork to scalable power without bureaucracy: --> Django-powered backend, with clean, secure, scalable architecture --> Real-time dashboard, replacing manual updating every legislative cycle --> Instant CSV uploads, replacing convoluted PDF workflows This isn't about flashy tech. It’s about civic tech that works: tools that restore trust, reshape democracy, and scale across borders. Today’s reminder for nonprofits: 1. Your domain isn’t the only one broken. 2. Your tools don’t just serve; you deserve scalable systems. 3. Accountability doesn’t wait for reports; it needs real-time tools. Big thanks to Ciudadanía Inteligente and Alio IT for showing how civic tech actually scales. The future of democracy isn’t speeches. It’s pixels that speak truth to power. #CivicTech #TechForGood #FutureOfDemocracy #NonprofitInnovation

How do you rebuild public trust in government services? You start by listening—and automating wisely. The UK public sector faced a familiar challenge: – Long wait times for citizen responses – Disconnected document systems – Poor visibility into service progress These gaps were causing frustration on both ends—citizens and council staff alike. The solution? A GenAI-powered transformation. We introduced a modular GenAI system designed to: ✔️ Automate repetitive query responses ✔️ Parse and understand documents at scale ✔️ Keep citizens updated in real time ✔️ Free up staff to focus on more complex work 3 core AI agents made this possible: 1. Document Understanding Agent – Extracted insights from forms, complaints, and FOI requests 2. Engagement Agent – Tracked cases and pushed timely updates 3. Conversational Agent – Responded with accurate, context-aware replies All tightly integrated with the council's CRM and document systems—ensuring control, compliance, and oversight. The results: – 50% faster response times – 22% increase in citizen engagement – Lower staff workload – More transparency and trust This project didn’t just modernize service delivery—it changed how councils engage with communities. GenAI isn't just about automation—it's about building smarter, more human-centered systems. Leveraging Blockchain to Rebuild Post-Conflict Syria—Ensuring Stability & Curbing Corruption As Syria looks toward recovery after years of conflict, rebuilding trust in governance and financial systems is critical. Blockchain technology can play a transformative role in fostering transparency, reducing corruption, and ensuring stability in nascent government structures. Here’s how: 1. Transparent Public Finance Management - Smart Contracts for Aid Distribution: Automating aid disbursement via blockchain ensures funds reach intended beneficiaries without intermediaries siphoning resources. - Immutable Budget Tracking: Recording government expenditures on a public ledger prevents tampering and enhances accountability. 2. Secure Digital Identity for Citizens - Many Syrians lack official documentation. A blockchain-based digital ID system can provide refugees and displaced persons with verifiable identities, enabling access to services like voting, banking, and healthcare. 3. Land Registry & Property Rights - Post-conflict land disputes are common. A decentralized land registry on blockchain can prevent fraudulent claims and ensure rightful ownership is restored. 4. Anti-Corruption & Auditable Governance - Public procurement transparency: Recording contracts and bids on-chain reduces kickbacks and favoritism. - Voting systems: Blockchain can secure electoral processes, ensuring fair and tamper-proof elections. Key Tools Needed for Implementation ✔ Permissioned Blockchain (e.g., Hyperledger Fabric): Balances transparency with controlled access for sensitive government data. ✔ Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs): Enables privacy while verifying transactions (e.g., for confidential aid distribution). ✔ Decentralized Identity Solutions (e.g., Sovrin, uPort):For secure, self-sovereign citizen IDs. ✔ Oracles (e.g., Chainlink):To integrate real-world data (e.g., aid delivery verification) with smart contracts. ✔ Stakeholder Education & Training: Government officials, NGOs, and citizens must understand blockchain’s benefits and operation. Best Practices - Georgia’s Blockchain Land Registry reduced fraud and increased trust. - Ukraine’s ProZorro e-Procurement System saved $6B in public funds via transparency. - Estonia’s Digital Governance showcases secure citizen services via blockchain. In brief… For Syria, blockchain isn’t just a tech solution—it’s a foundation for trust. International partners, tech NGOs, and local leaders must collaborate to pilot these tools in reconstruction efforts. #Blockchain #PostConflictRecovery #Syria #Transparency #GoodGovernance #TechForGood
