    When employed, people have routines. When unemployed, suddenly having 8-12 hours of spare time a day feels unnatural, therefore it must be filled with job search, right? Not right. But that’s what most people do because they crave the routine and feel productive — and that’s how job search fatigue sets in. I need a job → I must apply → I’ll spend 12 hours applying → I’m not hearing back → I’ll apply to even more jobs It’s an endless, exhausting cycle that gives the impression of productivity while in reality, it’s a recipe for burnout. What’s the solution? Create a productive routine by allocating a fixed number of hours to your job search and sticking to it. Adjust as needed, but be sure to leave time for rest and human interaction. By job search I don’t mean just applying to roles, but also: >Upskilling >Resume edits >Interview prep >Salary research >Filtering job boards >Practice negotiation >Networking or informational interviews Treat this new routine like a job. You clock in, do your job, take breaks, clock out. This way, your applications will be quality-focused instead of quantity-focused, which will eventually lead to more interviews and more offers. Spending 12 hours “on call” isn’t healthy, sustainable, or productive.

    My Personal Job Search Workflow (as an International Student in the U.S.) Job hunting isn't just about hitting "Apply" and hoping for the best. It’s a whole system. Here's the workflow that helped me stay strategic, sane, and slightly caffeinated: 1. Discovery & Research I start by identifying what I want : roles, industries, visa sponsors, and locations. Tools I rely on: FrogHire.ai: Helps me tailor resumes and cover letters to the job description. Interstride: Tracks CPT/OPT/H-1B friendly employers. LinkedIn Filters + "Easy Apply" + job alerts. 2. Resume & LinkedIn Optimization Rezi + Jobscan = ATS-friendly resumes, customized for each application. Careerflow.ai: For optimizing LinkedIn headlines, summaries, and keywords. Treat your LinkedIn as a personal website, not just a resume dump. 3. Job Tracking & Application Management Huntr + Teal: I use them to track where I’ve applied, what stage I’m at, and whom I’ve spoken to. color-code by priority. 4. Networking + Cold Outreach ContactOut + RocketReach: To get decision-makers' emails. MailTracker: So I know if they opened it. GMass: For personalized bulk outreach when I'm feeling bold. Cold emails usually should start with value, not a request. 5. Staying Consistent Treat job hunting like a class. 2 hours/day minimum. I use Loom to create short video pitches when I want to stand out. Celebrate progress not just offers: Networking calls, tailored applications, and learning moments. Whether you're job hunting from halfway across the world or across the street—structure helps.     Today marks my first official day at my new job... which is finding a job! 😂 My agenda includes waking up early, working out, getting dressed, putting on some lip gloss, and reporting to my office at home to get organized. As I embark on this journey, I understand the importance of structuring my time efficiently. Here's how I plan to prioritize my job search: 1. **Getting Organized**: I will dedicate specific times for job hunting, avoiding distractions to enhance productivity. 2. **Tracking My Progress**: A created spreadsheet will help me monitor applications, deadlines, and responses. 3. **Setting Clear Goals**: I aim to apply to a specific number of jobs or network with a set number of people daily. 4. **Updating Materials**: Regularly reviewing and tailoring my resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profile is crucial. 5. **Researching Opportunities**: Allotting time to explore job boards, company websites, and industry-specific sites. 6. **Customizing Applications**: Tailoring each application to the specific job and company to stand out. 7. **Actively Networking**: Reaching out to connections, attending industry events, and engaging on LinkedIn to discover hidden opportunities. 8. **Preparing for Interviews**: Practicing common questions, researching companies, and developing insightful inquiries for interviewers. 9. **Following Up**: Ensuring I follow up with thank-you emails or status inquiries post-application or networking. 10. **Taking Breaks**: Recognizing the importance of breaks to prevent burnout and maintain motivation.
