How to Balance Work and Personal Tasks

Explore top LinkedIn content from expert professionals.

Summary

Finding balance between work and personal tasks means allocating your time and energy in a way that allows you to meet professional obligations while nurturing personal well-being and relationships. It’s about making purposeful choices to prioritize what matters most in both areas without feeling overwhelmed or guilty.

  • Prioritize wisely: Identify your top three goals for the day—one for work, one for personal relationships, and one for self-care—and treat these as non-negotiable commitments.
  • Set clear boundaries: Establish distinct work hours and communicate these to your team or clients. Protect your personal time by disconnecting from work outside these hours.
  • Plan your week: Schedule personal time and meaningful activities with family or hobbies just as you would meetings, and use tools or lists to organize and focus on key tasks.

Juggling work, family, and sanity...sound familiar? You're not alone. As a career coach who's interviewed 50+ working parents, I hear the same struggle echoed repeatedly: the impossible quest for balance. Guilt whispers, "Do more!" Time melts away. Priorities clash. Focus becomes a distant dream. You're left with that nagging feeling you're failing at everything. Forget "doing it all." Instead, let's focus on prioritizing with purpose. Here is how I keep my balance in check: The Daily Power 3: One for Work: Tackle a crucial task, attend a key meeting, or complete a project that moves you forward. One with Family: Schedule intentional quality time, make sure you are home for a meal, or do bedtime. One for YOU: Recharge with a walk, exercise, or anything that makes you feel whole again . (Yes, self-care matters!) Here's the magic: Block time ruthlessly. Treat your Power 3 like sacred appointments. No distractions, no second-guessing. Celebrate completion, not perfection. You won't always finish everything, but accomplishing one thing each day will help you feel productive. Acknowledge your progress, put away the "should haves" and move on. Reframe "failures" as feedback. Not finishing a task doesn't mean you're a failure. It means you need to adjust your priorities tomorrow. The result? You'll shift from guilt to accomplishment, building resilience against that nagging voice. Balance isn't about achieving some utopian ideal. It's about prioritizing what matters most in the moment. Every day is a new chance to find the right mix for you and your family. I've found this to be an easy way to ensure my priorities start out balanced, even if the day doesn't end up that way. #workingparents #guilttrip #careercoach #balance #priorities #achievement #wellbeing #support

I used to say yes to everything - here’s how focusing on less boosted my work and life. Balancing career growth with personal life is one of the biggest challenges many of us face. It often feels like we have to choose between professional success and quality time with family. But here’s the thing: You don’t have to choose. You can excel at both. Over the years, I’ve found ways to enhance my career without missing out on precious moments with my loved ones. Here’s a core truth I’ve discovered: It’s not about doing more; it’s about doing what matters more. It all comes down to being intentional with how you spend your time and energy. Here’s how I’ve done it: Step 1: Master Time Management - Set clear work hours and stick to them - Use technology to automate and streamline tasks - Delegate or outsource non-essential duties ✅ The Payoff: More time for family and the things that matter most. For me, this meant realizing that saying “no” to certain things meant saying “yes” to the moments that matter with my family. It was a tough shift, but the results were worth it. Step 2: Focus on High-Impact Activities - Prioritize tasks that bring the greatest value - Say no to distractions and low-priority requests - Build strategic planning into your routine for long-term success ✅ The Payoff: Greater productivity and more fulfillment in both work and life. I used to say yes to everything, thinking that more meant better. But when I learned to laser-focus on what truly drives results, my life changed - both at work and at home. Step 3: Invest in Personal Growth - Commit to ongoing learning through books, courses, and podcasts - Seek mentorship and surround yourself with people who challenge you - Attend workshops and seminars to stay ahead in your field ✅ The Payoff: Personal growth that drives professional success. One of my biggest breakthroughs came when I viewed personal growth not as “extra” but as essential to my success. It wasn’t just about growing my career; it was about growing as a person. Balancing career and personal life isn’t just possible - it’s powerful. What strategies do you use to grow professionally without sacrificing personal time?

Why Most Professionals Fail at Work-Life Balance (And How You Can Succeed) Balancing work and personal life can feel impossible at times, but I’ve learned that carving out personal time is crucial—not just for your health but also for your career. Here’s how you can start today: 1. Set Clear Boundaries: Define work hours and stick to them. Communicate these boundaries with colleagues and clients to create mutual respect for your time. 2. Schedule Personal Time First: Use your calendar to block time for exercise, hobbies, or family. Treat it as non-negotiable. 3. Find the Right Hobbies: If work is your hobby, find something unrelated to challenge and relax your mind—whether it’s hiking, painting, or learning a new skill. 4. Incorporate Daily Mini-Breaks: Step away from your desk for 10 minutes every two hours. Walk, stretch, or meditate to reset your focus. 5. Plan Regular Vacations: Even if it’s a long weekend, planning ahead ensures you’ll have something to look forward to—and time to recharge. Give one of these tips a try, and share how it worked for you—I’d love to hear your experience! #WorkLifeBalance #PersonalGrowth #drarianademers

I’ve advised dozens of professionals in my career. The secret formula to boost your career-life balance: Over the last 25 years I’ve worked with professionals from all walks of life. I’ve also navigated my own career balancing act. During that time I've observed 10 powerful lessons to achieve balance. I call it, Career-Life Harmony Blueprint. This transformative framework outlines the 10 key lessons to balance career and life: → Prioritize: Focus on what truly matters → Delegate: Share the load to free up time → Set Boundaries: Protect your personal time → Self-Care: Make time for your health → Continuous Learning: Keep growing and adapting → Flexibility: Be adaptable to change → Time Management: Plan and organize effectively → Passion Projects: Engage in what you love → Networking: Build supportive relationships → Reflection: Regularly assess and adjust your balance ... As well as what happens when each is missing. • Operating without prioritization = "Overwhelm" • Not delegating = "Burnout" • No boundaries = "Intrusion" • Ignoring self-care = "Fatigue" • Stagnant learning = "Obsolescence" • Inflexibility = "Rigidity" • Poor time management = "Chaos" • No passion projects = "Monotony" • Lack of networking = "Isolation" • No reflection = "Imbalance" And remember, balance is a journey, not a destination. You can develop and improve in each of these areas. Here's how to do it: 1/ Prioritize: Identify your top 3 priorities and focus on them. What’s truly most important? 2/ Delegate: Identify tasks that can be handed off to others. Trust your team. 3/ Set Boundaries: Define clear work and personal time. Stick to them. 4/ Self-Care: Incorporate exercise, sleep, and nutrition into your routine. Health is wealth. 5/ Continuous Learning: Invest in skills and knowledge. Being part of a fully remote company, I've learned that achieving work-life balance is like optimizing a supply chain – it requires strategy, flexibility, and a bit of creative problem-solving. In a remote setting, the traditional boundaries between work and personal life often blur, and this is something I've struggled with. I’ve learned that rather than trying to maintain strict separation, to take advantage of the flexibility to schedule work around my most productive hours and personal commitments. 📌 Here are my top tips for mastering the remote work balancing act: • Set firm boundaries - Your home office should not be your bedroom, kitchen, AND gym. • Embrace the "work smarter, not harder" mantra. Use productivity and automation tools to manage tasks and time more efficiently. • Remember: Just because you CAN work 24/7 doesn't mean you should. Set realistic goals to avoid overloading yourself with too many tasks in one work day. I personally make a "top 3 for the week" list each Friday so that come Monday I know what my biggest priorities are to knock out. • Foster a culture where logging off is as celebrated as "crushing goals." Your team's batteries need recharging too. What's your secret to being balanced in the remote work world? Let me know below! 👇

Running a business is hard. You have to balance many things. There are always: ↳ Emails to answer ↳ Operations to run ↳ Meetings to attend Clients contact you at all hours with questions. The highs and lows can drive you insane. And the truth is no one cares about it as much as you do, so often you're left doing the grunt work. But no matter how passionate you are about your business, preserving your sanity and relationships should be the priority. This is why my family and personal health are more important than anything. Here are 5 things I do to make sure work doesn't interfere with "me" time or family time: 1. I put my phone down at 5:30 pm until the kids go to bed. Work can wait. 2. If I'm working after the kids are asleep, I type email replies but don't hit send until 8 am the next day. 3. I've hired team members who can take tasks off my plate. 4. I plan my week in advance. This keeps my goals top of mind and allows me to stay focused during working hours. 5. Take vacations and time off frequently. Disconnect. Just like I did this week for an ice cream break with my kiddos. At the end of the day, business success means nothing if you burn out, ruin your relationships, or neglect your health. Set boundaries and stick to them. Value your personal time. Balance is the key. P.S. What do you do to maintain a work-life balance?
