    𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐄𝐎𝐬 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐐𝟒 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒: 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬, 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 According to IoT Analytics latest report, three key themes dominated CEO conversations in Q4 2024: 𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐬, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐈. While mentions of AI and generative AI are tapering off in favor of more focused applications like agentic AI, this isn’t a retreat, it’s a clear sign of 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬, and my own observations. One standout observation is where IoT sits in the trends chart, categorized as small and fading. But is it really fading? Or has it quietly entered the early majority phase, embraced by venture capitalists and established markets? From my perspective, 𝐈𝐨𝐓 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠; 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠. When CEOs stop talking about a technology, it’s often a signal that it’s moved from the buzzword stage to being operationalized. This aligns with my 𝐒𝐎𝐃𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐋𝐎 model, See One, Do One, Teach One, Learn One. The best leaders immerse themselves in understanding and implementing a new technology, then shift their focus to what’s next. The silence on IoT might just mean it’s becoming part of the core infrastructure, an unsung enabler. 𝐢𝐨𝐭: The Silent Connector What’s driving this next frontier? Technologies like agentic AI, augmented reality, on-device tech, and industrial automation. And IoT? It’s the glue that binds them together. IoT enables real-time insights, connects systems, and supports precision decision-making across these emerging areas. Take reshoring and the renewed focus on manufacturing, two areas set for heavy investment. The key to optimizing these operations will be IoT-driven solutions, devices and sensors that track, measure, and deliver actionable insights to enhance efficiency, visibility, and massive outcomes. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 As we move into 2025, I expect smaller and mid-sized companies to increasingly adopt these “known goods” of AI, IoT, and automation. The conversation may shift, but the real-world application of these technologies will only deepen. IoT isn’t fading, it’s embedding itself into the foundation of modern business. And as attention turns to agentic AI and automation, IoT will remain the enabler, quietly driving innovation and interconnected systems forward.     𝗜𝗼𝗧 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗜-𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. IoT devices deliver real-world, real-time operational data, allowing corporate transformation in AI as the connected devices provide critical information for AI training and inference, so they use their data to automate and optimize physical activities. According to IoT Analytics' State of IoT Summer 2024 report, 16.6 billion IoT devices were connected in 2023, up 15% from 2022. IoT Analytics predicts 13% growth to 18.8 billion by 2024. Despite the macro concerns, 51% of enterprise IoT users want to increase their budget in 2024 (22% expect a 10%+ increase from 2023). Giesecke+Devrient (G+D) highlights five trends in the future fusion of IoT and AI. 1. AI and ML are set to revolutionize IoT, creating intelligent systems that can adapt and learn. AI/ML is revolutionizing IoT. By processing massive volumes of data, AI enhances predictive maintenance and energy management in #IoT applications. The analytical power of AI, combined with IoT's data collection and monitoring capabilities, creates an ecosystem that provides better operational insights. This integration makes IoT systems more innovative and responsive. 2. Edge computing enhances IoT. Edge computing processes or preprocesses data near the source, decreasing automobile data delivered to a central data center—real-time applications like manufacturing automation benefit from edge computing's low latency. The growth of #5G networks will boost device connectivity and data processing speed. AI and #ML integration with edge computing is predicted to improve, allowing edge devices to make sophisticated decisions independently. 3. Blockchain secures IoT devices. #Blockchain is playing an increasingly significant role in IoT security. As IoT devices handle sensitive data and its integrity, blockchain's decentralization and ability to verify data transactions are crucial. Blockchain can help protect IoT from growing cybersecurity threats, ensuring the data's security and integrity. 4. SGP.32 streamlines IoT management. The GSMA introduced the remote SIM provisioning specification SGP.32 in May 2023. This specification eliminates needing Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity when commissioning an IoT device. In SGP. 32, a faster and more stable IP-based protocol replaces SMS-based communication. This allows devices to receive SIM login info and settings over the air, simplifying IoT SIM profile loading, activation, and management. 5. IoT is not just about technology; it's about driving sustainability across sectors and positively impacting the environment. Finally, IoT will drive sustainability across industries. Modern, energy-efficient sensors and #AI enable precise resource management monitoring and control.
