They’re often in the dark, struggling to understand their healthcare journey. So, how do we change the game? Here are three disruptive UX themes that can turn the tables. 1️⃣ “Do Not Make Me Search”: Eliminating Search through Context-Aware AI Why should HCPs waste time sifting through information when AI can do it for them? Context-aware AI doesn’t just answer queries; it anticipates needs. Imagine an AI that not only knows an HCP’s specialty but also the case history, latest guidelines, and drug interactions—all presented in a digestible format, the moment it’s needed. 🔑 Key Move: Design AI systems that provide HCPs with timely, case-relevant data. Make it a no-brainer for HCPs to plug into your data sets for enhanced patient outcomes. 3️⃣ “Work for Us, Do Not Sell Us”: Translating Data into Patient Communication Patients often struggle with the “Why? What? How?” of their healthcare. Through smart analytics, let’s translate complex medical jargon into actionable insights. Imagine a platform that informs patients in a language they understand and a narrative/tone that inspires, thereby empowering them and their HCPs to act decisively. 🔑 Key Move: Develop communication tools that transform data into patient-friendly language and simpler actions.     I thought I was invincible when I was younger. Despite my family's history of hypertension, I knew nothing about blood pressure — let alone my levels. It took a doctor who understood my personality, background, and needs to wake me up and set me on a healthier road. It all started when he asked me whether I knew the pressure in my car's tires. "Of course," I said, explaining that I had to change tire pressure seasonally when I lived in Massachusetts. I told him that I just bought a new car and checked the tire pressure for the inspection. "It seems like you know a lot about tire pressure. Do you know your blood pressure?" he asked. I was speechless. I'm sure family, friends, and doctors mentioned blood pressure to me before, but it was in that silence that I finally heard the warning. I've checked my blood pressure regularly ever since. My doctor's direct questioning wouldn't work for everyone. Some people might respond to charts and diagrams that visualize what’s happening in their bodies. Others might like gentler conversations and ongoing support. The point is: How healthcare talks to people matters. Engagement must be individually tailored and culturally sensitive to empower people to take control of their health. Language, modes of communication, and trust are all paramount. This is true outside the doctor's office, too. Engagement that respects folks and meets them where they are is critical to starting the healthcare conversations that can change their lives. That's how our team at SameSky Health recently motivated 60% of members we contacted on behalf of a national health plan to schedule and attend their Annual Wellness Visit. We achieved that result even though these members had not come in for such an appointment in at least 18 months. Personalizing engagement and care isn't always easy. But it's essential.
