  • The global competition for innovation, and leadership in Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly focused on educating the best talent that can work in this essential field disrupting all our work and personal life. This The New York Times article by Paul Mozur and Cade Metz highlights the global educational trends of the two leading countries in AI, the U.S. and China, based on new research studies from MacroPolo, a think tank run by the The Paulson Institute: - China has eclipsed the U.S. as the biggest producer of A.I. talent, with the country generating almost half the world’s top A.I. researchers. By contrast, about 18 percent come from U.S. undergraduate institutions. - China has produced only about one-third of the world’s top talent three years earlier, this represents a significant increase over this time period, mostly driven by adding more than 2,000 undergraduate A.I. programs since 2018. The U.S.' percentage of creating AI talent has remained essentially flat over the last years, hovering around 18-20% - Researchers originally from China now make up 38 percent of the top A.I. researchers working in the U.S., with Americans making up 37 percent. The data shows just how important Chinese-born researchers are to the U.S. innovation in AI. Good news is that the U.S. continues to be an attractive destination and home for Chinese born AI talent. - While the U.S. and China are still leading the global market for AI talent, the U.S. share has dropped from about 59 % to 42% of hosting the world’s top talent over the last 3 years. I continue to believe that while there are strong competitive forces at play between the U.S. and China, ultimately we will only solve mankind's biggest challenges through global collaboration across many countries, including the U.S. and China. We can do both, strongly competing across many industries while working together to solve common problems. This shouldn't be framed as an arm's race between countries but an opportunity for innovation and better lives everywhere.

    Welcome to 2024 — a year that's shaping up to be a reality check for AI. So many of the trend reports coming out are forecasting another AI winter. Their logic? Too much hype, not enough results. I have a slightly different take. In my conversations with customers, a clear narrative has emerged: the hunger for AI tools that are ready for action is immense, but too many vendors are hawking demoware. I'm fundamentally a technology optimist. Here are three trends we're embracing at Transposit that will move AI from labs to production this year. 🧠 AI: The Ultimate ETL Tool for Unstructured Data In 2024, AI's role in ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) and data processing is undergoing a paradigm shift, especially in managing unstructured, human-generated data. Countries in Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas are pouring billions of dollars into new domestic computing facilities for artificial intelligence, opening up a fast-growing source of sales for Nvidia and other tech companies. Governments are boosting their budgets and brandishing other incentives to encourage local companies and multinationals to build new data centers and refit old ones with specialized computer chips, mostly from Nvidia. The goal: to develop AI locally and train large language models in their native languages, based on their own citizens’ data. Driving the investments is a quest for more strategic self-reliance amid rising tensions between the U.S. and China that center on technology.
