    ⚠️ BEFORE YOU SET 2024 GOALS, DO THIS ⚠️ As a coach to high-performers, I see smart, successful professionals constantly overextend themselves... They take on too much, for too long. Persistence and grit are great, but there comes a point when clinging to outdated goals causes more harm than good. 👉🏻 Knowing when to quit is just as – if not more – important than knowing when to commit. Here are five signs it's time to give up a goal, and leave it in 2023: 1️⃣ When a Goal was Not Yours Originally Are you telling yourself you “should,” “have to,” or “need to,” achieve something vs “wanting to?” For example, it's great if you genuinely want a promotion, but be wary if you're driven to climb the ladder out of obligation and loyalty. 2️⃣ When the Goal Brings You Mainly Distress It’s normal for your goals to feel a little bit scary and for you to be nervous about whether you can accomplish them or not. But some negative feelings go beyond a healthy sense of trepidation and bring profound dread, sleepless nights, or other health consequences. 3️⃣ When You’re More Fixated on the Outcome than the Process The arrival fallacy tricks you into thinking you’ll be satisfied and fulfilled once you get a certain title, hit a certain salary, or otherwise reach an external measure of success. But you may have failed to consider whether or not you actually want to acquire the skills you need to reach a goal in the first place. 4️⃣ When You’re Abandoning Yourself You’ll likely outgrow certain dreams, but an unchecked commitment to follow through at all costs can keep you stuck to outdated priorities even though your enthusiasm has disappeared. The effort required to reach your goal could also require you to neglect certain core values you hold dear, such as time with family, autonomy, or transparency. 5️⃣ When You’re Rationalizing It Sunk cost bias refers to the tendency to irrationally follow through on an action that isn’t paying dividends simply because you’ve already invested resources. Remember, quitting doesn’t make you a failure. It's a question that many of us face at some point in our careers, and one that requires careful consideration. So, how do you know if it's time to move on or stay put? ✅ First and foremost, it's essential to assess your level of #satisfaction and #fulfillment in your current role. Are you excited to go to work each day, or do you find yourself dreading it? Do you feel valued and appreciated for your contributions, or do you feel overlooked and undervalued? Reflecting on these questions can provide valuable insight into your overall job satisfaction. ✅ Next, consider your career #goals and #aspirations. Does your current role align with your long-term objectives, or do you feel like you're stagnating professionally? Are there opportunities for growth and advancement within your organization, or do you feel like you've hit a ceiling? Evaluating the alignment between your current job and your career aspirations can help clarify your decision-making process. ✅ Additionally, take stock of the #workplace #culture and #environment. Do you feel supported and empowered by your colleagues and supervisors, or do you feel isolated and disengaged? Is there a sense of camaraderie and #teamwork, or do you experience tension and conflict? A positive workplace culture can significantly impact job satisfaction and overall well-being. ✅ Finally, consider seeking guidance from a #career coach. A coach can provide invaluable support and guidance as you navigate your career decisions, helping you clarify your goals, identify opportunities, and develop a plan of action. By partnering with a coach, you can gain clarity, confidence, and direction in your career journey. Ultimately, the decision of whether to stay or go is a deeply personal one, and there is no one-size-fits-all answer.     How do you know when it’s time to sail away from your job? ⛵️ I see a lot of “gurus” telling people to quit their job if they’re not 100% happy or totally fulfilled by the work they’re doing. But the talking heads online don’t know your unique situation and they aren’t impacted by your decision. So, how do I guide clients through the noise and determine if it’s time to make a career shift? By helping them: 👉 Understand their current mindset 👉 Identify their future goals 👉 And, then, build a “next steps” path to bridge the gap between the two. One way to do this is by questioning what’s personally important to you in your career or at your current stage of life. For myself, I ask three questions to assess whether I’m in the right role: 1. Am I learning? 🌱 2. Am I making a difference? ✅ 3. Am I having fun? 💚 It’s okay if your questions are different or if they evolve and change over time. The important thing is to know what’s important to YOU. What questions would you ask?
