Crafting a Targeted Resume with a Strategic Focus In my previous post, I addressed considerations when determining whether to consider new opportunities within your current organization or to make a career move to a different employer. Moving on doesn't have to be daunting but it does take work. Let's begin by looking at the resume. In pursuing a standout resume, the summary section and professional experience section take center stage. Emphasizing the significance of your most recent experiences and maintaining a concise document length are critical elements for success. Here are considerations on how to approach the professional section while keeping your resume to a maximum of two pages: -Prioritize your most recent experiences. List your professional experience with the greatest emphasis on the most recent experience, achievements, and responsibilities. This aligns with the expectations of recruiters and showcases your current skill set and expertise.  -Focus on quantifiable achievements using numbers and metrics. Clearly articulate the tangible impact you've had in your most recent positions. -Start each bullet point with impactful action words to create a sense of momentum and achievement.  -Align with Job Requirements. Tailor the content of your recent experiences to align with the requirements outlined in the job description closely. -Integrate industry-specific keywords and phrases into your professional section. This can help the resume resonate with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). -Trim unnecessary details including only the most relevant and impactful information in your professional experiences.  -Craft a focused narrative, highlighting the most critical aspects that showcase your skills, contributions, and growth. -Use clean and consistent formatting throughout the professional section that guides the reader seamlessly through your career progression. -Present information in bullet points for easy readability. This allows for quick comprehension of your achievements and responsibilities. -Focus on the relevance of your experiences to the targeted job. Choose achievements and responsibilities that directly showcase your qualifications for the position. -Consider trimming details from older experiences to create space for more recent and impactful content. A resume tells a story about the candidate. The above bullet points look only at your professional experience which in most cases is by far the most important piece of the resume. Let me clear these 5 Resume myths that 90% of Job Seekers still have.. They cost you a ton of job opportunities. 1. Myth: Your Resume Must Be One Page: → Many believe a resume should never exceed one page. → However, if you have extensive experience, it's acceptable and sometimes necessary to use a second page. → It helps adequately showcase your qualifications and professional history. 2. Myth: You Should Include All Your Work History: → It's a misconception that every job you've ever held must be included on your resume. → Instead, focus on including only relevant experiences that align with the job you're applying for to keep your resume concise and focused. → You can include older experiences very briefly. 3. Myth: More Duties, More Impressiveness: → Some job seekers list every task they've handled to bulk up their resume. → Instead of listing duties, focus on achievements and how you added value. → Adding your achievements is much more impactful to hiring managers. 4. Myth: The Resume Does All the Work: → There's a belief that a great resume will guarantee a job offer. → While a strong resume is crucial, it's equally important to leverage networking, follow-ups, and personal branding to enhance your job search. → Your Resume needs to be in the right hands for ot to be worth anything. 5. Myth: Creative Resumes Stand Out More: → For roles not specifically in creative fields, using highly stylized resume formats can actually backfire. → They cause problems by not being ATS-friendly or by distracting from the content. → It’s better to stick to professional and clean formatting that highlights your experience and skills effectively. -------- It's important to always be armed with the right information. ❓ What other myths do you see job seekers have? Let's discuss in the comments! #Resume #resumewriting #resumetips #resumewritingservices #resumehelp

Working on your #resume? If you zoom out to about 50% and squint your eyes, does it look like just a wall of text? 😬 Because that's what a recruiter sees in the first nanoseconds of reviewing your resume (if it even gets past the AI robots.) Here are a few tips to help break things up a bit and make your resume more inviting to actually read: 🔢 Add numbers. Actual digits. Even start a bullet point with them. It visually catches the eye and gives the reader something to get excited about. >> Struggling to attach numbers to your achievements? Start with what's in the job description. It asks for 5+ years of XYZ experience? The first thing in your summary should be "7+ years XYZ experience". Or, if it speaks to growth, impact or change as an important requirement, try highlighting a percentage. Say you were a manager starting with 2 direct reports and increased to 5, you can write "Grew XYZ team by 150% in 3 years." 👬 Use Mirroring. Adjust the bullet points in your resume, or your skills section, to mirror the flow of the qualifications/about you/must-have section of the job post. >> Make it easy for the recruiter to easily see you meet their requirements, so they can check off their boxes and send you along to the hiring manager. Also, yes, you should be editing your resume for every application. Tools like Teal make it really easy. 📰 Split sections. Just like a newspaper changes font size, column width, and word density, often using lines or callout boxes to assist, break up your content visually to create flow and emphasis. >> But be cautious here. Resumes are all about using your real estate on the page wisely, so don't create lots of bulky section splits or tricky spacing that leaves lots of white space. It's about balance. ******** If you want someone to look over your resume and help with simple tips like this, drop a comment below 👇 and I'll get in touch! Unlike a lot of folks out there, I won't charge you an arm and a leg just to give you back a boring wall of text. We'll spend an hour talking through some tips and tricks I've figured out over my 15-year career, and I'll send you off with some homework to help you make every resume you send out land a little better.

5 Very Quick Ways to Uplevel your Resume (from someone who actively measures resume performance in ATS', recruiters and hiring managers) 1. 🎼 Resumes are about REAL ESTATE optimization. Does your resume tell a clear story about your title, industry and location? If so - you DO NOT need a "professional summary" or "objective". Do you have more than 2 years of experience? Than education should NOT be first. Your professional experience is paramount and should take up the majority of the first page 2. 🎵 Use BOLD to influence your reader to focus on your best achievements, just be careful to not overdo it 3. 🎶 Use ANCHORING to provide your reader with context. One of the best examples is if you don't work for a household name, use a brief description of what the company does in italics between the job title and your first bullet 4. 🎷 Data Data Data! Use numerics, insights and numerical information where possible to provide meaningful information. You can either estimate impactful data (was able to close 67% above target) or context data (managed a team of 14 marketing professionals). Similar to bolding do NOT overuse this. 5. 🎻 When thinking of format and design, use two rules: Rule 1 - Will this work for an ATS, Recruiter and Hiring Manager Rule 2 - Does this resume look like Im trying to punish the reader? Use Black font on white paper, put in natural eye breaks between sections, use differences in font sizes to denote different sections. I have examples of content, descriptions, videos and templates all available for immediate review! #resumewriting #resumetips #resumebuilding

How to Craft a Resume That Gets You Noticed? #Resumes often end up in the "undersell" pile, failing to grab the attention they deserve. But fear not, job seekers! Here are 6 secrets I learned from reviewing thousands of resumes to help yours shine: Keep it #Short & Sweet (Max 2 Pages): Recruiters are busy. A concise 1-2 pager ensures they see your key strengths quickly. Focus on #Skills, Not Background (Skip Nationality, etc.): Your skills and experience are what matter. Omit details like marital status or date of birth to keep the focus on your qualifications. #Readability is King (Avoid Fancy Designs): Stick with a clean format and professional fonts. Crazy colors and elaborate designs can be a turn-off or incompatible with hiring software. #Speak the Employer's Language (Use Keywords): Read the job description closely. Incorporate relevant keywords throughout your resume to showcase how your skills align with their needs. #Results Over Duties (Highlight Achievements): Don't just list responsibilities. Use action verbs and quantifiable results to show the impact you've made in previous roles. Don't Hide Your #Network (Include LinkedIn): Your LinkedIn profile is a goldmine of information. Including it allows employers to learn more about your experience, recommendations, and professional connections. By following these tips, you can transform your resume from an underachiever to a spotlight-grabbing masterpiece, significantly increasing your chances of landing that dream job! "Graphs, charts, text boxes and white space can dramatically improve a resume." Hold on -- embrace that and don’t be triggered by it! 🤗 The reality is that according to statisticians, a whopping 65% of people are visual learners. 👁️ (Look it up; it's everywhere online). Why else would social media be packed with memes, GIFs, and videos these days? We rarely learn in the way that traditional academic programs expect us to – reading black text on a white page. 📄 So why are resumes supposed to be stuck in that B&W box? They’re not unless you want to have a slow, agonizing job search. Winning resumes are marketing tools. But you’ve got to know how to balance the content! ⚖️ If you put important keyword content in a chart, graph, or textbox it could get lost with ATS. That’s a no-no! Think of those spaces as visual aids to enhance the experience only! A textbox is a great place for an award 🥇quantifiable achievement, or quote 🗣️ from a reference or employment review. A graph or chart 📊 is a great way to depict the growth you achieved in sales, product development or other milestones while the factual story is left to actual text. But text doesn’t have to be boring 🥱 either! Here are some tips: 1️⃣ Start bullets with action-focused verbs. 2️⃣ Keep bullets short – 2 lines each is best. 3️⃣ Focus writing on challenge, action, and results stories. 4️⃣ Use simple, clean design to draw the eye. Consider putting a title at the start of a bullet in bold italics to draw the eye. 👀 Example: Change Management: Spearheaded X with Y to attain Z. 5️⃣ Focus on white space vs on filling every empty space. 6️⃣ Use a touch of color for header text and lines that separate sections. Don't experience death by boring resume! A professional, certified resume writer can make all the difference.
