🎯 Job searching can be tough - Your best chance is to apply within the first 24 hours. Ideally, within the first few hours. Why? Because recruiters only need 10–15 solid candidates to make a hire. Once they’ve got them, they stop digging through the pile. Here’s how to be one of the first - 1. Change the timing filter on LinkedIn. Most people sort by “Date Posted.” But here’s a trick: ➡️ On a desktop, look at the URL after you run a job search. ➡️ You’ll see something like f_TPR=r86400 (that’s 24 hours). ➡️ Replace r86400 with r900 to see jobs posted in the last 15 minutes. Now you’re seeing postings in real time—before they get flooded. 2. Check job boards early in the morning and mid-afternoon. Many companies post between 8–10am and 2–4pm. Build a habit around checking during those windows. 10 minutes twice a day can make a big difference. 3. Save your filters and searches. On LinkedIn, Indeed, and other boards, save searches for your key titles, salary range, location, and job type. Set up alerts so the roles come to you the second they’re live. 4. Apply only to roles that match all 4 criteria: ✅ Title ✅ Salary ✅ Location ✅ Job Type This keeps your search focused and prevents burnout from chasing jobs that don’t actually fit. 5. Keep 2–3 ready-to-go resumes on deck. One resume per title you’re targeting. That way, you’re not scrambling to customize every time a role pops up. Bonus tip: If you find a role posted within the last hour—don’t just apply. 🟡 Try to find the recruiter or hiring manager on LinkedIn. 🟡 Send a short, clear note to introduce yourself. Sometimes, timing + a well-placed message can put you straight into the shortlist. ⸻ Job hunting in 2025 is more about speed and strategy than ever before. If you’re not seeing traction, it might not be your resume—it might just be that you’re showing up too late. If you fiix your timing. Fix your system. I am sure the interviews will start rolling in. If I were jobless or laid off in 2024, this is the exact 6-step strategy I’d use to find a job fast. Feel free to use it for yourself, it’s practical and proven. Step 1: Search smart - Go to LinkedIn and type: “[Your job title] AND hiring” in the search bar. - Filter the results by posts from the last 24 hours. - Prioritize roles and companies that align with your skills. Step 2: Build your list - Make a list of hiring managers and recruiters from the posts you find. - Use tools like Hunter or Skrapp to find their work emails if they aren’t listed. - Keep a spreadsheet to track companies, contacts, and outreach. Step 3: Send connection requests - Craft a personalized note when sending connection requests on LinkedIn. Example: *Hi [Name], I came across your job posting for [Role] and it aligns perfectly with my experience. I’d love to connect to explore this opportunity.* - Keep it polite, brief, and professional. Step 4: Directly message them - Once connected, send a well-crafted DM or email. Highlight: - Who you are: A brief introduction. - Why you’re reaching out: Reference the job posting. - What you bring: A key accomplishment or skill that aligns with their needs. Example: *Hi [Name], I noticed your post about the [Role] opening at [Company]. My experience in [Skill] and [Result] makes me a great fit for this position. Could we schedule a quick call to discuss further?* Step 5: Follow up - If you don’t hear back within a week, follow up politely. Example: *Hi [Name], I wanted to follow up on my earlier message regarding the [Role]. I’m genuinely excited about the opportunity to contribute to [Company]. Please let me know if we could connect.* - Consistency without spamming shows initiative. Step 6: Expand your reach - Apply through job boards and company career pages simultaneously. - Use tools like AngelList or Wellfound for startup opportunities. - Network aggressively, ask for referrals from your connections. You have to walk the mile others won’t to reap the rewards others can’t. With this strategy, you’re not just applying for jobs, you’re creating opportunities for yourself. P.S. If I had just 2 months to land a JOB, here’s exactly how I’d do it Due to popular demands, I had to share this to help every job seeker out there Month 1 – ✅ Research 5–10 organisations that are currently hiring from verified job boards. ✅ Confirm that these roles are VERIFIED to avoid applying for a role that doesn't exist (do this by checking the company's LinkedIn page or social media handle) ✅ Optimize your resume + LinkedIn profile for those roles. ✅ Go to the company's profile, under the “People” tab → connect with employees (especially key decision makers that are active on linkedin). ✅ Add a personalized note when sending connection requests (This will increase your chances of getting a response) ✅ Engage with their posts consistently to build visibility and stay top of mind ✅ Suggest a quick 5–10 min call to learn more about their journey. Month 2 – ✅ Hop on those calls — let the conversation focus on them, their work & the company. ✅ Listen carefully, then pitch your service. (don’t sound too desperate, be clear & confident). ✅ Notify them and tell them that you've also Applied formally for these roles in their organisation ✅ Ask for referrals where appropriate. ✅ Keep engaging & expanding your network. ✅ Follow up politely with recruiters & connections both via mail and on LinkedIn ✅ Prepare for interviews with strong examples & storytelling. By the end of the 2 months: You’ll have a visible LinkedIn presence. Active connections inside your target companies (These guys will be your ears and eyes in these organisations 😏) A higher chance of landing referrals. And most importantly, more interviews lined up. Getting a job is not just about applying… It’s about positioning yourself as the candidate they want to hire😏 I'll be in comments answering questions PS - My Mentorship program kicks off today 🥳 Your LinkedIn Big Sister, Blessing Ikpia

Most international students apply the traditional way - find a job, submit the application, and wait. But there’s a better way to get noticed - here’s how! 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 1: 𝐔𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧 Type “Hiring Data Analyst” (or your target role) into LinkedIn Jobs. Switch to "Posts” → "Latest." This shows posts directly from recruiters or hiring managers. These posts often have fewer likes or comments, meaning less competition. 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 2: 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 Saving the post helps LinkedIn understand your interests. While it’s not guaranteed, this might make LinkedIn show you similar job posts in your feed, giving you more opportunities. 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 3: 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞 Tailor your resume to match the job description. Highlight your skills, projects, and experience that make you a great fit for the role. 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 4: 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐎𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 Send a short, personalized LinkedIn message to the person who shared the job. Example Message: Hi [Name], I saw your post about the [Job Title] opening. I have 2+ years of experience in [Field] and recently worked on [Relevant Project]. I’d love to bring my skills in [Skill 1, Skill 2] to your team. I’m attaching my resume and would appreciate any advice you can share! 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 5: 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐎𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 Find 4-5 other people working in similar roles or departments. Introduce yourself and mention how your skills align with the company’s needs. 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 6: 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 Use this approach to apply for 10-15 roles every week. The more you practice, the more confident and effective you’ll become. 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 7: 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐔𝐩 After a week or two, follow up with the people you reached out to. Keep it polite and friendly. Most people apply through job boards and wait. This proactive approach helps you build connections, showcase initiative, and increase your chances of landing interviews. Have you tried this strategy? What worked best for you? Most job hunters are using job boards wrong. That wastes time and causes burnout. The stories I hear are so discouraging: ❌ Endless scrolling ❌ Not seeing the titles you want ❌ Getting excited about jobs that may be fake ❌ Waiting and waiting and waiting Here's how to use job boards to support your efforts. (Not work against you!) ✅ Do searches on your top skills AND job titles ✅ Always click “Last 3 days” ✅ Note the titles & companies for jobs you like ✅ See if you have connections at the company ✅ Go to the company career page ✅ Search for the job title ✅ If it's missing, you just saved time. ✅ If you've got a connection, ask for a referral. ✅ Apply with 24 hours and use the referral if you can ✅ Follow up with a message to the hiring manager By searching on both skills and job titles, you will capture: 🛠️ Jobs that match your skills but have unfamiliar titles 🧠 Jobs that you hadn't considered By applying on the company website you will: 🌟Ensure the job is real 🧍Be able to add a referral 💡Pro-tip: Try LinkedIn's "Job Collections" which matches the skills and roles in your profile to various industries! If you have used Job Collections, let me know what you think in the comments! ♻️ Share to help job hunters be more effective! 🔔 Follow Sarah Baker Andrus for more career strategies 📌Need a change?
