THREE of my job seekers accepted offers within the past three weeks! Here's how we got them there: 1) Deep reflection into their biggest strengths to develop an irresistible value proposition. A big problem job seekers face in this market (that many aren't even aware of) is not understanding which roles they should be targeting. Sure, you can have some titles in mind, but that doesn't mean you're crystal clear on your fit with the role or able to clearly articulate the value you bring to the table. I worked with these three candidates to refine their job targets based on what they do BEST, and scaled back broader targets that weren't getting successful traction. Recruiters today are faced with more applicants than they need, so they're not going to take the time to try to connect the dots between your past experience and the role they're recruiting for. You MUST be able to show that you're a strong fit very quickly, so your strengths and value proposition must be well-aligned with the company's "wish list." 2) Revamp of the resume to reflect strong, quantified, and unique IMPACT. Weak resumes are task-oriented. Strong ones are packed full of detailed and quantified results that demonstrate high value. I dug into each candidate's experience to first identify the skills that were most relevant to their ideal targets, and then helped shape a narrative that could help them stand out amongst a crowd of other qualified applicants. 3) Aggressive networking. The depth and success of our networking strategies varied from person to person, but I can definitively say that persistent networking was the leading factor in at least one of these three securing a continuous flow of interviews. We examined strategies for leveraging an existing network, as well as doing effective cold outreach. The cold outreach approach even proved useful for one of my clients during his interview process, as he was able to connect with a member of the hiring team to gain insight into the interview process. 4) Extensive interview preparation. All 3 of my job seekers put in the work here, and we left no stone unturned. I helped in ways such as giving feedback on interview recordings, pulling together prep documents that outlined profiles of my candidates' interviewers, and conducting mock interviews to identify potential for improvement. It's been a great year so far, and I'm grateful to be a part of the journey for job seekers who are able to finally end their frustrating search and secure great offers.
